Job description

WHY DEPT®?

We are a Growth Invention company built to help the world’s most ambitious brands grow faster. Operating at the intersection of technology and marketing, we create what is next by pioneering ideas, acting fast, and moving further because standing still just is not in our DNA.

We are drawn to people who stay curious, move with intent, and never stop inventing. Our culture runs on three values: better together, relentlessly curious, and get sh*t done. It is how we work, how we grow, and how we make things that matter.

At DEPT®, you will find the freedom to explore, the space to collaborate, and the trust to make a real impact for our clients, for each other, and for the world we are helping to build.

THE ROLE:

As a Director of SEO, you are the technical and strategic lead for the craft, responsible for the quality, process, and profitability of our organic search offering. You will steer a team of experts to deliver pioneering work for global brands, ensuring that DEPT® remains at the forefront of search innovation—from AI-driven discovery to complex technical ecosystems. You are equal parts mentor and growth-driver, playing a key role in winning new business and refining the methodologies that allow us to create “what’s next” in the search landscape.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
  • Refine and scale the agency’s SEO methodology, ensuring our approach to technical, content, and authority-building is best-in-class and future-proof.
  • Lead high-stakes new business pitches, clearly articulating the value of organic growth invention and technical SEO to prospective C-suite stakeholders.
  • Oversee the strategic roadmap for a portfolio of accounts, ensuring all work is high-impact, delivered on time, and aligned with client business objectives.
  • Partner with Business Development and Client Services to scope complex SEO projects, ensuring appropriate resource allocation and department profitability.
  • Navigate complex, multi-agency and multi-stakeholder environments, ensuring SEO is a foundational component of the broader marketing mix.
  • Champion the integration of emerging tech, such as Generative AI and advanced data science, into the SEO planning and execution process.
  • Lead and mentor a team of Associate Directors and Managers, fostering a culture of “relentless curiosity” and high-performance collaboration.
WHAT YOU BRING:
  • 8–11 years of experience in SEO strategy and leadership, with a track record of driving significant organic growth for Fortune 500 or global enterprise brands.
  • Proven experience in a senior agency leadership role, with a focus on team management and craft development.
  • Deep technical expertise in SEO, including experience with large-scale site migrations, headless architectures, and international SEO.
  • Strong commercial acumen—you understand how to scope projects for profitability and how to identify organic growth opportunities within a client portfolio.
  • Exceptional presentation and storytelling skills, with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
  • A “better together” mindset, with experience collaborating across Media, Creative, and Tech teams to deliver holistic digital experiences.
  • Active involvement in the SEO community and a passion for staying ahead of the curve in an ever-evolving search landscape.
WHAT DO WE OFFER?

We are a collaborative, open-door, best-idea-wins environment that fosters personal and company growth and has fun doing it. Here is a snapshot of our benefits package:

  • Healthcare, Dental, and Vision coverage
  • 401k plan, plus matching
