CEC Companies is seeking a Safety Director in Irving, TX to oversee Corporate Safety and Health programs, develop site-specific safety plans, and lead ORM processes. You will collaborate with Project Management to implement robust safety measures and drive a culture of safety across projects.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years of S&H experience, OSHA 500 or CHST or STS certification, and a degree in safety-related field.

Qualifications

  • Experience with OSHA and DOT compliance, insurance audits, and workers' compensation.
  • Proficient in conducting S&H training programs.
  • Experience creating AHA/JHA and site emergency plans.
  • ABET-accredited safety degree or related field; relevant certifications (GSP/ASP/CSP).
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Safety Director is responsible for oversight of Corporate Safety and Health (S&H) Programs, effectively managing multiple Safety programs, developing and implementing CEC site-specific project safety plans, and collaborating with Project Management in the implementation and leadership of the Operational Risk Management (ORM) process. Provides solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, and practical.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Leads development of and clearly articulates Company’s safety vision, objectives, strategies, policies, and procedures in order to build a safety culture dedicated to behaviors which lead to best-in-class results.
  • Provides proactive leadership and assumes ownership of building a best-in-class safety culture by anticipating problems and providing solutions, sharing knowledge with, and creating an environment of learning, mentoring and empowerment to promote employee engagement.
  • Participates in meetings with GCs, customers, project team members, and contractors/sub-contractors to advise of project-specific mitigation plans, S&H training programs, and technical reports.
  • Develops and implements an Accident Prevention Program to meet project safety plan specs and requirements.
  • Creates the site safety budget, identifies necessary safe work permits and assures compliance with project contract, plans, and specifications.
  • Leads Operational Risk Management (ORM) team in reviewing, interpreting, and developing a project safety plan based on project, client/owner, Program Manager, and General Contractor (GC) specifications, design drawings, regulations, and existing safety system.
  • Develops process and procedures to support implementation of the ongoing changes to Safety, Health, and Environmental programs needed from changes in state and federal regulations.
  • Travels to work sites to assists in the development, evaluation and upgrading of safety programs.
  • Maintains required safety files and records, including OSHA logs, etc.
  • Supports Operating Units in post-accident investigation and prepares report identifying possible accident causes and hazards for use by company personnel and senior management.
  • Participates and represents the company in industry meetings; interacts with subordinates, supervisors, other agencies and Operating Units to facilitate safety compliance.
  • Partners with HR for claim management, workers comp and Return to Work Programs
  • Participates in supporting Risk Management Strategies (Captive)
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective processes, completion of projects and smooth operation of department.
Education and Experience
  • 10+ years of experience with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Previous MEP/construction/industrial and commercial S&H experience.
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 500 or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST) or Safety Trained Supervisor.
Required Skill, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of safety and health standards, rules, regulations, and proficiency in applying them to projects.
  • Working knowledge of safe work practices and experience in conducting accident investigations, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance, insurance audits, workers compensation, and project health surveys.
  • Proficient in conducting S&H training programs.
  • Experience creating Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) or Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), site emergency evacuation and first aid plans.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft (MS) Office suite.
  • Regulatory compliance expert/1910,1926.
  • Degree in environmental health and safety, safety management, construction, or related field
  • Safety Management Systems knowledge, skill and experience - ANSI-Z10, OHSAS 18001, ISO 31000.
  • Significant understanding of culture and culture building skills.
  • Expert trainer - OSHA 500/502
  • Safety and Health / Occupational Safety degree from an ABET accredited program
  • Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP)
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Bilingual (Spanish-Speaking) preferred

  • Sit for extended periods of time.
  • Requires the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • May require travel.
  • Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
  • Talk and hear, ability to communicate with others both written and orally and by telephone.
  • Possess good vision, normal or corrected. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision to discern color coded wires, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Possesses good hearing, normal or corrected.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest), as needed.
  • Must be able to work 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as required and night shifts, as needed. Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
  • Must be able to work in the presence of customers and their representatives with little or no interference or disruption to the customer while maintaining a professional and courteous image.
