Summary

Director of Retail Operations

The Director of Retail Operations provides strategic leadership across multiple regions or business segments, responsible for translating enterprise strategy into execution while driving business growth, client outcomes, and organizational performance.

This role leads a team of senior leaders, owns P&L performance, client strategy, and cross-functional alignment, and uses data and insights to guide decision-making, shape long-term plans, and influence both internal and external stakeholders.

The Director is accountable for organizational capability, leadership development, and sustained growth, ensuring the business delivers both near-term results and long-term value.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic leadership:
    • Translates enterprise strategy into actionable plans and outcomes across multiple regions
    • Establishes direction, communicates vision, and drives alignment across stakeholders
  • Business growth and client strategy:
    • Drives revenue growth, share expansion, and strategic initiatives for clients
    • Builds executive-level client relationships and positions organization as a strategic partner
  • Data-driven decision making:
    • Leverages multiple data sources, including point-of-sale, syndicated, and financial data, to guide strategy and improve performance
    • Translates data into executive storytelling and actionable insights
  • Organizational and talent leadership:
    • Builds and leads high-performing leadership teams; drives succession planning and leadership readiness
    • Oversees organizational health, capability building, and performance management
  • Financial and operational oversight:
    • Owns profit and loss performance, investment allocation, and risk mitigation

Supervisor Responsibility

Direct Reports: Hires, retains, trains, coaches, guides, directs, and develops direct reports using company-wide processes, tools and resources

Indirect Reports: May delegate work of others and provide guidance, direction and mentoring to indirect reports

Required Knowledge and Skills

    • Deep understanding of how retail execution drives client growth, including volume, share, and distribution, and overall business performance
    • Knowledge of multi-channel retail environments and how strategy varies across channels

  • Organizational design and leadership systems:
    • Knowledge of scaling organizations, leadership pipelines, and succession strategies
    • Understanding of enterprise processes, including performance management, talent strategy, and cross-functional collaboration

    • Translates enterprise strategy into clear direction for multiple regions and teams
    • Sets priorities that align cross-functional stakeholders and drive business outcomes

Environmental & Physical Requirements

Office / Sedentary Requirements: Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed primarily in an office environment. Typically, requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time (66%+ each day), ability to hear telephone, ability to enter data on a computer and may require the ability to lift up to 10lbs.

Field Requirements: Incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job. Work is performed in a retail in-store environment, which may include working in variable temperatures such as refrigerated areas, freezer sections and deli/bakery areas. The position typically requires the ability to spend 66%+ hours each workday performing the following activities: Engage in considerable physical activity, ability to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds, stand on feet for long periods of time, use consumer goods products, prepare, and serve food and beverages safely as appropriate for the product demonstration.
