Job summary

FM Industries in Livermore, CA seeks a Director of Quality Operations to lead site quality departments and customer/supplier quality support teams. The role is highly visible, with responsibility for developing quality goals, strategies and metrics. You will interface with customers, manage staff, and ensure ISO 9001/ISO 14001 compliance, while driving quality improvements across operations.

Qualifications

• BS in a technical, materials science or quality-related discipline (or equivalent).
• 10-15 years’ experience in quality management/engineering with demonstrated progression.
• ASQ certifications: CQM, CQE, SSBB or LSS.

Responsibilities

• Lead the quality operations at the site and support customer and supplier quality teams.
• Develop and communicate long-term quality goals, strategies and metrics.
• Collaborate with quality and operations management to implement plans to achieve goals.
• Manage direct reports, performance, rewards, and conflict resolution.
• Identify training needs and provide targeted training to staff.
• Interface with customers on quality issues and initiatives.
• Stay current with customer requirements and quality tools.
• Keep top management informed of significant QA developments.
• Develop and control quality system documentation.
• Coordinate with internal departments, customers and suppliers on quality planning and issues.
• Provide and arrange QA training for employees.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Director of Quality Operations is responsible for the planning, leadership and operational execution of the organization's quality departments at the site level as well as customer and supplier quality support teams. This is a highly visible and customer-facing role critical to the growth and success of the company.

• Leads the company in development of overall company quality goals and objectives
• Develops long-term quality strategies, annual quality goals and metrics
• Confer with quality and operations management to develop plans to achieve goals
• Assign work to direct reports, appraise performance, reward and discipline employees, address complaints and resolve problems
• Identify department training needs and provide appropriate training of employees
• Interface with customers on key quality issues and initiatives
• Stay abreast of current customer requirements, quality and management tools through seminars and publications
• Keep top management team abreast of significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities
• Performing quality system documentation development and control
• Interface with internal departments, customers and suppliers as required for quality planning, quality system development and resolution of quality issues
• Provide and/or arrange quality related training for company employees
• Basic knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001) and Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001), as applicable

Qualifications:

• B.S. in a Technical, Materials Science or Quality-related discipline required or equivalent of education and experience.
• 10-15 years’ experience in quality management/engineering with demonstrable success in progressively challenging roles.
