Job description

Carlo University is seeking an experienced leader and educator to assume the role of Program Director for the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Program and to teach in the Nurse Practitioner (NP) core courses. This is a full-time, tenure-track, 11-month position located on the Oakland campus in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with educational preparation and experience.

Job Summary

The Program Director serves as the academic and administrative leader of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Program, providing oversight for the PMHNP and PMHNP post-master’s certificate offerings. In addition, as a graduate NP faculty member, this role will provide teaching in the Nurse Practitioner core courses. Additional duties of service and scholarship are expected.

Essential Functions
  • Work with the Graduate Nursing Chair to set annual program goals and evaluate outcomes.
  • Support the maintenance of and adherence to approval/accrediting bodies' standards specific to the Nursing Program, including Middle States, CCNE, and PA SBON requirements.
  • Participate in accreditation review processes, which include self-studies and interim reports.
  • Contribute to program curriculum reviews.
  • Ensure completion of course materials and book orders.
  • Support the program in assessment activities, ensuring adherence to NONPF and specialty-specific recommendations.
  • Recruit and retain students to meet or exceed established enrollment and achievement goals.
  • Advise and mentor enrolled students.
  • Develop and mentor program faculty.
  • Develop and lead student orientations.
  • Address student concerns.
  • Conduct grade appeals.
  • Work collaboratively with the other graduate program directors and faculty to ensure the delivery of a comprehensive and current curriculum.
  • Address allegations focusing on academic integrity.
  • Consult with the Department Chair regarding the program supply budget to ensure program funds are spent as needed.
  • Function as a change agent and leader to create the preferred future for nursing education and practice and enhance the visibility of nursing and its contributions to the academic community.
  • Pursue continuous quality improvement through ongoing commitment to developing and maintaining role competence.
  • Engage in scholarship as defined by the Boyer Model.
  • Participate in service to the University, profession, and community.
  • Support the work of the Department Chair and NP Program Directors.
  • Perform other duties mutually agreed upon with the Program Director, to whom you will report.
Other Non-Essential Functions

Minimum Education Level Required
All candidates must have:
  • A doctorate (DNP, PhD, EdD, or another related degree).
  • A master's degree in nursing.
  • Eligibility for Pennsylvania State Professional Nurse licensure as a certified registered nurse practitioner.
  • Prescriptive authority.
  • National certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
Minimum Related Experience Required
  • Three years of academic or related leadership experience.
  • Three years of teaching experience in a PMHNP program or related experience.
  • A minimum of five years of clinical experience in the NP role as a PMHNP, with evidence of current practice.
  • Evidence of or potential for an active program of scholarship/research.
Required Licenses/Certifications
Candidates must:
  • Be eligible for Pennsylvania State Professional Nurse licensure as a certified registered nurse practitioner.
  • Hold prescriptive authority.
  • Hold national certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).
