Job summary

Competitive Power Ventures, Inc. (CPV) seeks a Director of Project Development to join its Renewable Development Department in the Braintree, MA office.

Lead development, permitting, and execution of greenfield renewable projects in the Western United States, overseeing cross-functional teams to meet time and budget objectives. The role requires 7+ years of energy development experience, a bachelor's in engineering or business (MBA preferred), and strong NPV/IRR modeling and P&L understanding.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 7+ years of energy project development experience with a proven track record in successful development of wind power projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally in engineering or business, MBA
  • Must be a self-starter, organized, and able to work well with personnel at all levels in the organization; must possess top level business management, interpersonal, and facilitation skills
  • Strong financial skills and understanding of company and project profit and loss, pro forma modeling, and NPV/IRR analysis
  • Possess a strong understanding of real estate matters and complexities
  • Ability to gather, organize and systematically analyze complex information
  • Effective problem-solving skills: ability to work from concept to analytics, identify alternatives and develop unique solutions
  • Excellent writing, communications, presentation, interpersonal, problem-solving, financial analysis, and organizational skills
  • Extensive experience developing projects in the WECC, with a preference for WEIM
  • Ability to travel 30-50% as necessary
  • Must pass a pre-employment background and financial credit check

Responsibilities

  • Plan, permit, and execute the development program for identified US renewable projects per company objectives.
  • Negotiate development agreements and manage the permitting process.
  • Develop local community support and manage relationships with potential off-takers.
  • Coordinate with internal departments including engineering, finance, energy management/origination, external affairs, legal and asset management.
  • Prepare regular progress reports and budget updates for management.

Competitive Power Ventures, Inc. (“CPV”), with headquarters in Silver Spring, MD, as well as offices in Braintree, MA and Sugarland, TX is uniquely positioned to leverage global technology and financial partnerships to help modernize America’s power generation. We are driven to improve our energy infrastructure by developing and operating power generation facilities using cutting edge, domestically available renewable power and natural gas technology. CPV is owned by OPC Energy, the first privately held electric company in Israel.

CPV is looking for a Director, Project Development, to join its Renewable Development Department, located in our Braintree, MA office. The successful candidate will play a leading and active role in the project management, execution, and development of prospective greenfield renewable power projects in the Western United States. Candidate must be self‑motivated and be willing to take initiative to complete project elements on time and on budget and have a deep understanding of and track record in the successful development of large utility or energy projects. A deep knowledge of US power markets, knowledge of ISOs and their operating rules, familiarity with state RPS and other incentives driving renewable energy development is required. Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills are required.

The position reports to the Vice President, Renewable Energy.

Summary Of Responsibilities

Position will be responsible for the selection, permitting and execution of US projects according to company’s investment and development objectives. General responsibilities will include:

  • Plan and execute the development program for identified projects
  • Negotiate necessary development agreements
  • Manage the permitting process, anticipate and resolve other project development activities as required
  • Develop local community support for the project
  • Manage relationships and develop commercial agreements with potential project output off-takers
  • Direct external consultants and coordinate with internal departments including engineering, finance, energy management/origination, external affairs, legal and asset management
  • Administrative responsibilities to include regular updates to Management on project progress, action items and budget
Requirements
  • Minimum of 7+ years of relevant energy project development experience with a proven track record in successful development of wind power projects

Compensation:

The base annual salary range for this position is $165,000 – $180,000 in the Company’s good faith estimate. The actual base salary for this position will be contingent upon individual experience, role responsibilities, and office location.

In addition to base salary, this position allows additional compensation and benefits, including:

  • an annual discretionary bonus up to 30%, fully contingent based on individual and company performance
  • paid time off (PTO) of 136 hours per year, hours earned monthly, and up to 13 company paid holidays
  • group benefits: 100% company paid medical, dental and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan with a 100% company match up to 6%, life insurance, short-and-long term disability, parental leave and flexible spending accounts.

The base annual salary range may be modified in the future.
