Job description

Description

BLOX is revolutionizing the construction industry by integrating advanced manufacturing principles with innovative technology to deliver high-quality, modular building solutions. We are driven by a mission to rethink how buildings are designed, fabricated, and delivered, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and sustainability.

BLOX is seeking a Director, Program to lead an entire platform category of BLOX’s portfolio (Data Center, Healthcare, Retail, or an emerging building type), together with the Associate Directors and Managers who run the programs within it. This role owns full P&L across all programs in the category and presents those results to the Board and C-suite. It leads capital and capacity planning for the platform, stands up new programs and building types as BLOX enters new markets, owns long‑term client strategy, and serves as BLOX’s credible voice in the DMC and modular construction industry.

Program Management is the central nervous system of BLOX. Where Project Managers own the flow of information on their individual projects, Managers own the interpretation of that information within a single program, and Associate Directors own the organizational capacity to produce and act on it across several programs, the Director, Program owns the platform itself: its economics, its capacity, its client franchise, and its reputation. This role decides what BLOX builds in the category and how much of it BLOX can build: which programs are launched, which manufacturing slots and hiring commitments are made against them, which clients are developed for the long term, and which risks the organization is prepared to carry. It sets organizational performance standards for the leaders beneath it, provides governance and resolution for the issues those leaders expand, and represents both the platform and BLOX to the Board, to the C-suite, and to the industry.

Job Responsibilities
Program Management
  • Own full P&L across all programs within the assigned platform category, including revenue, margin, and cash outcomes. Present results, forecasts, and corrective plans to the Board and C-suite.
  • Lead capital and capacity planning decisions for the platform: manufacturing slot allocation, team hiring, facility and tooling investment, and the organizational investment required to support committed and forecast volume.
  • Stand up new programs and building types by leading the operational launch of new markets or product categories, including team formation, process definition, pricing and schedule baselines, and first-of-a-kind execution.
  • Own long‑term client strategy across the platform: multi‑year relationship development, contract positioning, master agreement structure, and the release of additional programs and projects.
  • Set and enforce performance standards for the platform’s Program Management personnel across schedule, financial reporting, procurement, quality, and stakeholder communication, and contribute to the standards that govern the entire BLOX Program Management Group.
  • Provide governance and resolution for major issues escalated from the programs: contract claims and disputes, cross‑departmental conflicts, capacity conflicts, and client escalations that exceed Associate Director authority.
  • Design and evolve the platform’s organizational structure; make hiring, promotion, restructuring, and succession decisions across Associate Director, Manager, and Senior PM levels.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop Associate Directors and Managers; accountable for their performance, retention, and professional development, and for building the leadership bench required for BLOX’s growth.
  • Evaluate and decide platform‑level operational risk: portfolio concentration, capacity overcommitment, supply chain exposure, and contract terms that carry organizational consequence.
  • Direct investment in the tools, data infrastructure, and KPI frameworks the platform runs on; set the standards for what is measured, how it is reported, and how it informs decisions.
  • Translate cross‑program and cross‑platform lessons learned into BLOX’s program management systems; sponsor the continuous improvement of the DMC operating model.
  • Serve as BLOX’s voice in the DMC and modular construction industry through conferences, publications, standards bodies, and peer organizations. Establish and protect BLOX’s reputation with clients and the construction industry.
  • Champion organizational Safety and Quality culture; hold the platform’s leadership accountable for safety and quality outcomes in the plant and in the field.
Field Management
  • Represent BLOX at the most senior client‑facing milestones, executive client events, and industry forums for the assigned platform.
  • Serve as BLOX’s executive relationship owner for C‑suite client leadership across the platform’s client portfolio.
  • Serve as the final internal escalation point for disputes, claims, and client issues that exceed Associate Director authority anywhere in the platform; lead mediation and settlement strategy in coordination with BLOX Leadership and counsel.
  • Take direct control of a program or jobsite in organizational‑level jeopardy when intervention beyond the Associate Director is required, and drive it back to stable operation.
Scope of Authority
  • Own and approve full P&L across every program in the assigned platform category, and present results, forecasts, and corrective plans to the Board and C‑suite.
  • Make capital and capacity planning decisions within the platform’s approved plan: manufacturing slot allocation, hiring, facility and tooling investment.
  • Decide to stand up a new program or building type within the platform and commit the organization to its operational launch.
  • Set organizational performance standards, KPI definitions, and operating procedures for the platform, and sponsor changes to the DMC operating model in coordination with Design, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Construction leadership.
  • Make final hiring, promotion, compensation, restructuring, and termination decisions for the platform’s Program Management organization.
  • Approve commercial positions, change orders, claim settlements, and contract terms that exceed Associate Director delegated authority, up to the platform’s delegated limit, including the issuance of and response to formal notices of claim under the prime contract.
  • Own and commit long‑term client strategy for the platform, including multi‑year relationship development and master agreement positioning.
  • Halt or release any shipment, set, or turnover anywhere in the platform for an unresolved safety or quality condition; this role is the final authority on releasing a halt.
  • Take direct control of any program in the platform and displace its leadership for the duration.
  • Represent BLOX publicly in the DMC and modular construction industry.
Requires escalation
  • Enterprise capital allocation and investment beyond the platform’s approved plan, and any commitment of manufacturing capacity allocated to another platform.
  • Corporate strategy decisions on which platform categories or markets BLOX enters or exits.
  • Changes to BLOX’s standard contract forms, indemnity, insurance, warranty, or enterprise risk position.
  • Litigation, mediation, or termination decisions at the prime contract level.
  • Executive compensation structure and organizational design outside the platform.
  • Any public commitment made on behalf of BLOX beyond the platform’s scope, including pricing or capacity positions taken with the market.
  • Any matter requiring Board authorization.
Job Skills & Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Data Analytics, or related field.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience, including demonstrated accountability for multiple programs totaling more than $150M in actively managed contract revenue annually.
  • Demonstrated ownership of full P&L across multiple programs, with a proven ability to present and defend results, forecasts, and corrective plans to a Board and C‑suite audience.
  • Demonstrated capital and capacity planning experience: manufacturing slot, hiring, and investment decisions made against a forecast and defended against outcomes.
  • Proven track record of standing up new programs or building type categories, including team formation and first‑of‑a‑kind execution.
  • Demonstrated ownership of long‑term client strategy, including multi‑year relationship development and contract positioning that produced repeat and expanded work.
  • Strong understanding of contract strategy, claims, disputes, and mediation; expert negotiator with a fair and ethical mindset.
  • Calm, precise, and decisive in a crisis; able to clearly communicate expectations and consequences to project teams, clients, and executive leadership.
  • Long‑term planning skills aligned with organizational business plans: P&L, margins, and capital.
  • Credibility as a voice in the DMC, modular, or industrialized construction industry, demonstrated through client, peer, or industry forums.
  • Proven ability to build, restructure, and right‑size a multi‑layer organization, and to develop leaders at the Manager and Associate Director levels.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills; ability to synthesize complex information for Board, Executive Leadership, and C‑suite client audiences.
  • Advanced proficiency in scheduling; ability to set organizational scheduling standards and direct scheduling work across multiple platforms (MS Project, Primavera P6, and Smartsheet).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for portfolio‑level financial and operational analysis.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Bluebeam.
  • Strategic and operational leadership capacity; ability to position BLOX for long‑term success within the platform category you lead.
  • Ability to travel up to 35% depending on platform phase, client engagement, and intervention needs.
Preferred
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (MBA, Data Analytics, Construction Management, or similar).
  • Relevant professional certification (PMP, ASHE CHC, LEED AP, or similar).
  • Established public presence in the DMC, modular, or industrialized construction industry, including speaking, publishing, or participation in standards and benchmarking bodies.
  • Demonstrated capacity to set analytical and data requirements for the organization; ability to evaluate whether the right analysis is being performed, not only whether the output is correct.
  • Demonstrated ability to set organizational standards for cost modeling and financial analysis; fluency reviewing complex financial models at an executive level.
  • Ability to interpret CAD, Revit, or SolidWorks models sufficient to lead design strategy discussions and productization decisions.
  • Working understanding of Python, SQL, and data modeling tools sufficient to evaluate and sponsor their application within program workflows.
  • Working knowledge of AI/ML, statistical modeling, and data engineering concepts sufficient to set organizational adoption strategy and direct investment.
  • Demonstrated ability to champion adoption of AI tools such as Claude.ai, Claude Code, Lovable, or Replit across an organization; proven track record establishing organization‑wide AI adoption standards and performance benchmarks.
  • Ability to establish organization‑wide KPI frameworks and dashboard standards (Power BI, Tableau, Smartsheet dashboards).
  • Experience directing ERP reporting and data strategy (Microsoft Dynamics Business Central or comparable) at an organizational level.
  • Demonstrated senior‑level leadership experience in estimating, cost analysis, or data analytics within construction, manufacturing, or related industries.
