Job description

Uplight is creating a new category of energy. We make software that manages energy resources in homes and businesses—including smart thermostats, electric vehicles, solar panels, storage batteries, heat pumps, and even people’s behavior—to generate, shift, or save energy to balance the grid, making it more efficient and reliable. This creates clean energy capacity that can be used by the power grid instead of burning more fossil fuels. Our solutions accelerate the transition to clean energy and save money for energy customers.

We are seeking a strategic, collaborative, and execution‑oriented Director of Product to lead our Engagement & Enrollment product suite. In this role, you will define and execute the product strategy for Uplight’s services‑enabled SaaS suite focused on engaging and enrolling utility customers at scale, owning and driving forward the vision, strategy, and roadmaps for your teams to deliver outcomes for our utility clients and drive meaningful impacts for all users, from program managers to energy users. You will collaborate closely and intentionally with other cross‑functional leaders (engineering, sales, industry solutions, account management, marketing, delivery, and implementation) to ensure stewardship of the product vision and strategy as market and client needs evolve.

What You Get To Do
  • Articulate a clear product strategy for the Engagement and Enrollment products, aligned with Uplight’s vision, accelerating our ability to drive engagement and enrollment with Demand Stack solutions and shift megawatts at scale.
  • Collaborate with product and cross‑functional peers in other parts of the business, including Flexibility Management and Data Platform, as well as commercial and delivery teams to plan for and prioritize the next most valuable work at all times.
  • Shape your teams’ product roadmaps to align with that strategy, and incorporate market context and client needs, balancing near‑term execution with long‑term vision. Focus on delivering, delighting, and growing to continuously enhance the outcomes we drive for our clients as well as Uplight’s competitive position.
  • Guide your teams to ruthlessly prioritize the most important and impactful problems to solve; drive aligned product roadmaps across teams to ensure we collaborate effectively to deliver meaningful solutions.
  • Define outcome-oriented product metrics and hold teams accountable to meeting them.
  • Drive customer‑centric innovation and design thinking, informed by research, data, market trends, and evolving utility needs. Leverage quality and user experience as strategic advantages, ensuring all Uplight products are intuitive, accessible, and impactful.
  • Navigate difficult conversations with radical candor and professionalism across executive leadership, commercial sales teams, and delivery teams. Synthesize fragmented, highly complex technical hurdles into concrete, actionable milestones and communicate the plan and progress against the plan to key stakeholders.
  • Champion client‑centricity across product teams, consistently considering delivery commitments to build and maintain client trust.
  • Lead with people first: build, mentor, and empower PMs and designers in a global team setting. Foster an inclusive product culture and inspire teams toward clarity, ownership, and accountability. Empower teams to improve building processes while remaining focused on business outcomes.
  • Enable product teams to become more cross‑functional, agile, iterative, and empowered. Implement and coach best practices, rigorously measuring continuous improvement on customer value delivery.
  • Leverage strong business instinct to question convention and drive innovation, including strategic integration of advanced AI/ML technologies where appropriate.
  • Drive the productization and externalization of core APIs and widgets (including eligibility engines, enrollment ledgers, billing insights, and communication history) to unlock frictionless, instant enrollment ecosystems with leading OEMs (e.g., Nest, Ecobee, Optiwatt)
  • Champion a culture of reliable performance by leading initiatives to close systemic testing gaps by establishing automated data generators, unified internal sandbox/UAT environments, and robust end‑to‑end testing frameworks across multi‑service pipelines.
What You Bring To Uplight
  • 8+ years experience leading product teams to understand highest value pain points, market opportunities, and delivering on them
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with an ability to clearly articulate your narrative to both technical and non‑technical, internal and external client audiences alike.
  • Experience leading horizontal, multi‑team efforts around shared business goals or questions, embedding discovery throughout your process.
  • A user‑first mindset that advocates for the pursuit of simple, elegant solutions, while balancing ambiguity and technical constraints.
  • Growth‑minded and well‑versed in giving and receiving constructive feedback, with a commitment to collaborative problem‑solving.
  • Big plus: Experience working with a globally distributed product and engineering team
  • Big plus: Experience integrating AI into products in a thoughtful, impactful way; experience leveraging AI‑based tools to drive organizational effectiveness.
