Job summary

Vistra in Irving, Texas, seeks a senior power modeling professional to build and deploy models that extend the group’s analytical capabilities across ERCOT, PJM, and other markets. You will partner with software vendors and IT to productionize solutions and lead new fundamental modeling efforts.

You will coordinate with the Regulatory Policy team on market design changes and benchmark POVs with the Power Fundamentals team while guiding ongoing analyses after peak events.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of prior experience in Power Modeling, Power Flow Analysis, Data Science, Quantitative Analysis, or related discipline.
  • Experience from college degree programs and/or certifications applicable to above skills.
  • Production cost modeling skills and experience strongly preferred (PSO, Promod, Aurora, etc.).
  • Significant experience with programming languages (SQL, Python, etc.).
  • Market design experience is a plus.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and report preparation skills.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and process modeling skills.
  • Minimum education is High School Diploma or equivalency.

Responsibilities

  • Build modeling tools alongside the software vendor, partnering with that vendor and IT to productionize solutions.
  • Advance software with the developer, extending modeling tools as requirements emerge.
  • Introduce and operationalize new fundamental models across ERCOT, PJM, and additional markets as needed.

  • Lead market fundamentals analyses following summer and winter peak events.
  • Engage Power Fundamentals subscription vendors to extract full value from purchased data while strengthening provider relationships.
  • Balance and smooth the workload demands that accompany model development.
  • Take on additional assignments spanning Structuring, Fundamentals, and Quantitative Analysis.

Job Summary

Reporting into the Power Fundamentals team, this role builds and deploys models that extend and reinforce the group's existing analytical capabilities. Responsibilities span longer-horizon forecasting, rapid-turnaround analysis, POV evaluations following each peak season, and the coordination of market fundamental studies conducted after peak events or as requested.
