Job Description

At Gilead our pursuit of a healthier world for all people has yielded a cure for hepatitis C, revolutionary improvements in HIV treatment and prevention as well as advancements in therapies for viral and inflammatory diseases and certain cancers.

We set and achieve bold ambitions in our fight against the world's most devastating diseases, united in our commitment to confronting the largest public health challenges of our day and improving the lives of patients for generations to come.

The Director, Portfolio Digital Capabilities & Innovation, HIV Treatment will lead the portfolio business strategy for identifying, prioritizing, scaling, and driving adoption of high-value digital capabilities and innovation across the HIV Treatment portfolio.

A core focus of the role will be advancing capabilities such as NBA/NBE, AI-enabled engagement, personalization, and emerging digital solutions, translating successful brand-led pilots and enterprise capabilities into scalable, repeatable approaches that create value across multiple HIV Treatment brands.

The Director will serve as the portfolio business lead for digital capability prioritization and scale, identifying opportunities, establishing business requirements, evaluating value, and driving adoption. The role will partner closely with Brand Marketing, Customer Engagement & Experience, Digital Strategy & Operations (DSO), Analytics, Sales, and other cross-functional partners to connect HIV Treatment business priorities with the appropriate capabilities and implementation pathways.

The role complements existing brand and enterprise functional ownership. Brand teams lead differentiated brand strategy and execution, while Portfolio Marketing identifies and scales opportunities that create value across brands. DSO brings the enterprise digital expertise, capabilities, governance, and implementation needed to enable those priorities.

Key Responsibilities
Portfolio Digital Capability Strategy & Prioritization

Lead the portfolio business strategy for digital capabilities across HIV Treatment, translating portfolio strategy, brand needs, and customer opportunities into a prioritized capability roadmap.

Identify shared needs and opportunities across brands where digital capabilities can create greater impact, accelerate learning, or reduce duplication.

Lead portfolio prioritization of NBA/NBE, AI-enabled engagement, personalization, and other emerging digital capabilities, ensuring investments remain anchored in clearly defined business needs.

Partner with DSO and cross-functional stakeholders to assess emerging solutions and determine their relevance and applicability to HIV Treatment.

Develop business cases and decision-ready recommendations to guide capability investment, prioritization, and evolution.

Pilot-to-Scale & Innovation

Establish and lead a disciplined pilot-to-scale model that translates successful brand-led innovation into scalable, repeatable portfolio capabilities.

Partner with brand teams to define business needs, priority use cases, and success criteria while preserving brand ownership of differentiated strategy and execution.

Evaluate pilots and emerging solutions for broader portfolio applicability and determine where capabilities should be scaled, refined, or discontinued based on business value and strategic relevance.

Translate successful pilots into clear portfolio business requirements, partnering with DSO to enable broader deployment.

Capture and share learnings across brands to accelerate adoption of proven approaches and avoid recreating solutions brand by brand.

NBA/NBE & Precision Engagement

Lead the HIV Treatment portfolio business strategy for the continued evolution and integration of NBA/NBE and related precision-engagement capabilities.

Translate brand and portfolio priorities into actionable capability requirements and use cases, including opportunities to strengthen signals, triggers, decision logic, and personalization.

Partner with Brand Marketing, DSO, Analytics, Sales, and other stakeholders to advance precision-engagement capabilities and identify opportunities for continued optimization.

Drive integration and scalability as the HIV Treatment portfolio evolves, balancing differentiated brand needs with opportunities for greater consistency and efficiency.

Partner with Customer Engagement & Experience to ensure digital capabilities enable the intended customer journey while maintaining clear ownership of portfolio customer experience strategy within that role.

Capability Adoption & Business Value

Drive adoption and realization of business value for prioritized digital capabilities, moving successful solutions from pilot to sustained use across the portfolio.

Establish business objectives, success criteria, and adoption measures in partnership with Brand Marketing, Analytics, DSO, and other stakeholders.

Use capability performance, adoption, and customer and business insights to inform continued investment, optimization, or discontinuation.

Translate performance and emerging opportunities into clear, decision-ready recommendations for HIV Treatment leadership.

Build connectivity and learning across brands and functions to strengthen digital acumen, accelerate reuse of successful approaches, and foster disciplined, business-driven innovation.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Marketing or related field and a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience, OR Master's degree and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, OR PhD and a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives within a highly matrixed organization.

Strong understanding of digital marketing, omnichannel engagement, personalization, NBA/NBE or related decisioning approaches, data-driven marketing, and emerging AI-enabled capabilities.

Demonstrated ability to translate business strategy and customer needs into clear capability requirements and scalable solutions.

Experience evaluating pilots, establishing success measures, and using data and insights to guide prioritization, investment, and scale decisions.

Strong strategic and commercial judgment, including the ability to evaluate emerging technology and innovation opportunities against clearly defined customer and business needs.

Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and lead across functions without direct authority.

Strong executive communication skills, including the ability to translate complex digital and technology topics into clear business implications and recommendations.

Demonstrated ability to build productive partnerships across Marketing, Digital, Analytics, Sales, and external partners.

Pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other highly regulated industry experience preferred.
