Job description

Now Brewing – director of planning and business operations – Global Design and Innovation! #tobeapartner

From the beginning, Starbucks set out to be a different kind of company. One that not only celebrated coffee and the rich tradition, but that also brought a feeling of connection. We are known for developing extraordinary leaders who share this passion and are guided by their service to others.

About Coffeehouse Design and Development

It is our mission to enable compelling stores that elevate our global brand, are relevant to our customers, inspire our partners, and are meaningful to our business. We enable the delivery of the physical experience of our brand, setting the stage that invites people to connect over coffee. In partnership with other teams within Coffeehouse Development, we bring to life a meaningful variety of inspirational and brand defining experiences.

We are seeking a strategic, collaborative leader who can enable high-performing, cross-functional teams and support senior leaders across Coffeehouse Development, Design and Innovation, International, and the enterprise. In addition to business operations oversight for the Global Design and Innovation function, this role will strengthen global design integration by shaping the global design system and governance.

As a director of planning and business operations, you will…

  • Lead annual and long-range business planning for Global Design and Innovation in partnership with leaders across Coffeehouse Development, Coffeehouse Excellence (operations), International, and the enterprise, integrating strategic, operational, financial, and resource priorities.
  • Partner with Finance and PRO (Human Resources) to shape organizational, talent, and financial strategies; deliver cost analysis and reporting; and strengthen the partner experience across Global Design and Innovation.
  • Lead the rhythm of the business and performance-management approach for the Global Design and Innovation leadership team, aligning priorities, business reviews, decision forums, metrics, and reporting with enterprise operating cadences.
  • Enable the design and innovation svp and extended leadership team through strategic communications, meeting preparation, leadership forums, director+ and town hall experiences, quarterly onsite and offsite sessions, and other opportunities that strengthen collaboration, engagement, and leadership effectiveness.
  • Drive global design integration by advancing design system strategy and governance, coordinating design reviews and approvals, managing Global Coffeehouse Design Code and catalog governance, and overseeing design code audits, directives, and communications.
  • Create alignment and knowledge sharing across global markets through the Global Design Leadership Summit, global monthly roundtables, international quarterly design reviews, and ongoing support and advocacy for regional design teams.
  • Serve as the Global Design and Innovation lead for enterprise planning systems and tools, represent the function within the business operations network, reinforce its vision and strategy across the enterprise, and lead other strategic priorities defined by the leadership team.

We’d love to hear from people with 5+ years of:

  • Superb and succinct communications skills, including the development of presentation material for large organizations and senior leadership teams
  • Strong proficiency in program and project management with proven ability to stay organized across multiple competing priorities
  • Analytical skills with proven ability to digest large, complex data sets to pull out key themes and potential courses of action (informed recommendations) for senior leaders
  • Ability to function effectively and collaboratively in a highly ambiguous environment, with the flexibility to change course as required to respond to new situations quickly and decisively
  • Strong meeting management and facilitation skills, leveraging hybrid working tools; ability to flex style to different audiences across mediums to yield desired objectives/outcomes
  • Cross-functional leadership experience in large, matrixed organizations with ability to influence and drive change across organizational boundaries
  • Experience collaborating and partnering with global teams to deliver unified results
  • A passion for people and desire to help partners and the organization thrive
  • Ability to lead and leverage resources across the organization to deliver results, through influence and process
