Job Summary

Provides direct patient care/physical therapy services to a caseload of residents in a non-CMS skilled care facility. Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the Physical Therapy department and performs administrative duties inherent in the position. Supervises one (1) Certified Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA), students (if the PT elects to precept), and any department volunteers. Participates in key organizational committees including Performance Improvement, Safety and Falls committees.

Responsibilities
  • REVIEWS REQUEST FOR SERVICES: Reviews requests for physical therapy services, establishes service and program priorities, and coordinates programs and services with other departments.
  • PLAN AND COORDINATES CLINICAL TRAINING: Plans, coordinates, and supervises clinical training of physical therapy students in the facility; develops and coordinates clinical research programs, study projects, and audit activities related to patient treatment.
  • DEVELOP, ESTABLISH, AND REVIEW POLICIES: Develops and establishes departmental policies and procedures, and completes annual review of all departmental and facilities policies and recommends modifications.
  • PERSONAL AND DEPARTMENTAL PROFESSIONAL GROWTH: Participates in continuing education required for state licensure and national board certification, in-service activities, professional meetings, community involvement, and independent study.
  • SUPERVISES AND EVALUATES STAFF: Supervises and evaluates PTA, Restorative Technician, students, and volunteers.
  • PROVIDES HIGH-QUALITY PATIENT CARE: Develops and implements physical therapy programs based on residents' needs; provides screening, evaluation, treatment, documentation; participates in clinical team admissions and Resident Care Conferences; oversees department functions, staff management, resident care, reporting, and equipment use.
  • TRAINING STAFF: Trains staff in new or revised work/treatment methods and procedures for therapy administration.
  • PARTICIPATES IN TEAM MEETINGS: Participates in team meetings to coordinate and evaluate patient care and serves as the PT department representative on committees.
  • INVENTORIES AND REQUISITIONS SUPPLY AND EQUIPMENT: Manages supplies, equipment, and maintains equipment in good working order.
  • MAINTAINS DEPARTMENTAL RECORDS: Maintains administrative and patient care records, audits, in-services, equipment procurement and maintenance, and reports.
  • OTHER DUTIES: Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
Graduate of an American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) accredited Physical Therapy School with a Master's degree in Physical Therapy. Licensed by the State of Georgia as a Physical Therapist.

Required Experience
At least two years of experience in all facets of Physical Therapy; supervisory experience or training in managing staff.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications: A Doctorate in Physical Therapy is preferred. Geriatric Physical Therapy clinical certification.
Preferred Experience: Experience with the Point Click Care electronic medical record system. Experience in long-term care.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, disease processes, and training in functional mobility. Ability to plan and provide skilled intervention dependent on assessed deficits. Management skills to supervise physical therapy assistants and restorative technicians, students, and volunteers.
  • Skills: Management skills to supervise PT, PTA, a Restorative Technician, students, and volunteers. Represent the Physical Therapy Department in facility and community meetings.
  • Abilities: Ability to plan and provide skilled intervention dependent on assessed deficits. Ability to operate equipment and perform technical procedures; mentor, motivate, and evaluate staff; communicate effectively with rehab and facility staff; prioritize workload; and accomplish departmental objectives.
Certifications/License

Licensed by the State of Georgia as a Physical Therapist.

Shift, Salary, Benefits

Shift: Days/M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Pay Band: B15

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications within the established range (generally minimum midpoint).
