Job summary

Blue Shield of California’s Pharmacy analytics team leads data-driven care improvements for members, delivering safe, equitable and affordable benefits. The role blends strategic leadership with hands-on analytics across claims, quality, and performance metrics.

This position operates in a hybrid environment, blending in‑office collaboration two days per week, with flexible arrangements based on business needs and location. You will mentor and develop a high-performing analytics team.

Qualifications

• Active California RPh license is required.
• PharmD degree from an accredited U.S. school of pharmacy is required.
• 10 years of healthcare analytics/bi/data science experience.
• 6 years of people management experience with direct reports.
• Experience with large healthcare datasets (claims, eligibility, provider, financial).
• Experience with data visualization/BI tools (PowerBI/Tableau/BO or similar).
• Experience with SQL and healthcare data warehousing environments.
• Experience with cloud environments (Azure, Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, GCP).
• Understanding of healthcare quality measures, STAR/HEDIS/regulatory reporting.
• Excellent presentation and written skills; ability to convey complex ideas clearly.
• Detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Solution-oriented mindset to resolve challenges.

Your Role

Your Knowledge and Experience

• Requires a currently active and unrestricted California Registered Pharmacist (RPh) license
• Requires a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited school of pharmacy in the U.S.
• Requires 10 years of prior relevant experience in healthcare, pharmacy, analytics, business intelligence, reporting, or data science
• Requires 6 years of prior people management experience with direct responsibility for supervising, coaching, and evaluating direct reports
• Experience working with large healthcare datasets, including pharmacy claims, medical claims, eligibility, provider, and financial data
• Experience with data visualization and business intelligence tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, Business Objects, or similar platforms
• Experience with SQL and healthcare data warehousing environments
• Experience with cloud‑based data environments such as Azure, Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, or Google Cloud
• Understanding of healthcare quality measures, STAR ratings, HEDIS, and/or regulatory reporting
• Excellent presentation, verbal and written skills with ability to understand and convey complex ideas to audience with diverse backgrounds
• Detail‑oriented with the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment
• Exhibit a "can do" attitude and solution‑oriented approach to resolve challenges

Hybrid

This role requires employees to be in‑office based on our hybrid workplace model, balancing purposeful in‑person collaboration with flexibility. For most teams, this means coming into the office two days each week.

Employees living more than 50 miles from an office location will work with their manager to determine in‑office time based on business need.
