Qualifications

  • Bachelor's in Pharmacy or PharmD required.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • License: Ohio State Board of Pharmacy license required.
  • BCPS or BCPPS preferred.
  • Five years of relevant experience required.
  • Three years of supervisory leadership experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Leads enterprise-wide pharmacy operations with focus on quality, safety and compliance.
  • Develops strategic plans for growth, optimization and clinical integration.
  • Oversees budgeting, cost control and revenue from retail, specialty and contract programs.
  • Supervises and develops pharmacy leaders and staff.
  • Collaborates with clinical teams for safe medication use and formulary management.
  • Monitors controlled substance handling and regulatory compliance.
  • Implements quality improvement and medication safety initiatives.
  • Supports innovation in automation and Epic Willow workflows.
  • Serves as a pediatric pharmacy subject matter expert across age groups.

Monday-Friday day shift but responsible for 24/7 department

Summary:

The Director of Pharmacy provides strategic and operational leadership for all pharmacy services at Akron Children's Hospital, including Inpatient, Outpatient, Specialty, and Contract Pharmacy programs. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant pharmacy operations, driving clinical excellence, managing fiscal performance, and aligning pharmacy services with the organization's mission and growth objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads enterprise-wide pharmacy operations, ensuring alignment with quality, safety, and compliance standards, including those set by the Ohio Board of Pharmacy, DEA, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Develops and executes strategic plans for pharmacy growth, operational improvement, and clinical integration in collaboration with executive leadership and medical staff.
  • Oversees financial performance of pharmacy services, including budget planning, cost control, and revenue enhancement through retail, specialty, and contract pharmacy programs.
  • Supervises and develops pharmacy leaders and staff, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and professional development.
  • Partners with clinical teams to support safe and effective medication use, formulary management, and interdisciplinary collaboration through participation in the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and other forums.
  • Monitors and manages controlled substance use across the organization, ensuring compliance with documentation and security requirements.
  • Implements quality improvement initiatives, medication safety strategies, and performance metrics to ensure excellence in pharmacy operations.
  • Supports innovation in pharmacy services, including automation, clinical pharmacy advancement, and optimization of Epic Willow workflows.
  • Acts as a resource and expert on pediatric pharmacy practice and patient-centered care across all age groups served.

Technical Expertise
  • Hospital pharmacy operations and regulatory compliance required
  • Pediatric pharmacy experience preferred
  • Strong communication and leadership skills across clinical and operational teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; Epic Willow experience preferred
Education and Experience
  • Education: Bachelor's in Pharmacy or PharmD required; Master's preferred
  • Licensure: Ohio State Board of Pharmacy license required
  • Certification: BCPS or BCPPS preferred
  • Years of relevant experience: Five (5) years of relevant experience required.
  • Years of supervisory experience: Three (3) years' experience in a leadership capacity required
