Job summary

Indiana University Bloomington’s IU Outdoor Adventures seeks an experienced operations leader to oversee a team of staff and manage day‑to‑day outdoor programming. You will coordinate logistics, develop retreats, camps and education offerings while ensuring safety and high‑quality participant experiences.

Responsibilities include budgeting, contract development, staff performance, and collaboration with campus partners to support student health, wellness, and involvement under Recreational

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Recreation, Sports Management, or related field.
• Master's degree in Exercise Science, Recreation, Sports Management, or related field preferred.
• 4 years of related experience with structured recreational programming.
• 1 year of management experience.
• CPR/AED certification within 180 days of hire.
• First Aid certification within 180 days of hire.
• Preventing Disease Transmission/Universal Precautions certification within 180 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provides operational leadership for a team of full‑time and part‑time staff.
• Analyzes performance, sets priorities, conducts reviews, and provides corrective action as needed.
• Designs and implements recreational, educational, professional development, and team‑building retreats, camps, and other outdoor education programming.
• Oversees day‑to‑day operations, logistics, and program-related issues; supports participants and projects.
• Identifies contracts, partners, and facilitators; negotiates arrangements and coordinates presenters.
• Develops educational materials, curricula, equipment, and resources for program offerings.
• Develops activities for outdoor programs and collaborates with leaders and participants to build itineraries.
• Creates evaluation tools for program effectiveness and applies improvements.
