Job summary

The University of West Alabama seeks a Director of Instructional Design to lead design, development, and QA of courses across colleges and modalities. The role reports to the Dean of Online Programs and ensures instructional standards align with institutional goals.

Responsibilities include supervising the instructional design team, coordinating workflows, and partnering with faculty and academic leaders to improve course outcomes and student readiness in a rapidly evolving online and on-campus

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Technology, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or faculty development in a higher education setting.
• Supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership within an academic or instructional design team.
• Strong understanding of pedagogical best practices, learning theory, and assessment design.
• Excellent project management, communication, and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the design, development, and revision of academic courses to ensure alignment with institutional quality standards and accreditation expectations.
• Lead, supervise, and mentor the Instructional Design team to ensure consistent and high-quality instructional support.
• Establish and manage workflows, timelines, and priorities for course development and operations across all colleges and instructional modalities.
• Collaborate with academic leadership, program coordinators, and faculty to ensure effective course mapping, learning outcomes alignment, and assessment design.
• Manage and coordinate instructional design support provided through our online program management (OPM) partner to ensure alignment with institutional priorities, timelines, and quality standards.
• Meet regularly with department chairs and deans to discuss instructional design standards, processes, and procedures, and identify instructional needs and course improvement priorities.

Education

Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Educational Technology, or a related field
