Job summary

Greater Peoria Family YMCA is seeking a dynamic leader to develop and oversee childcare summer camps, after-school programs, Teen REACH, and related activities in Peoria. You will supervise two program coordinators, build relationships with schools and community partners, and drive program growth while maintaining safety and compliance.

This role emphasizes high-quality programming, staff training, budget oversight, and collaboration with Marketing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, Social Work, and/or Recreation.
• Three years of experience in a related field with comparable program growth.
• Two to three years of demonstrated experience in leading and managing staff and volunteers.
• Ability to effectively work/interact with diverse populations.
• Computer literacy including knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Outlook and database management.
• Time management efficiency.
• Ability to successfully obtain certification in CPR/AED and First Aid.

Overview

This position supports the work of the Y by the development, organization, implementation and support of new and existing childcare summer camp, after school care, programming. Program areas include but are not limited to Teen REACH, child watch, performing arts, preschool age programming, etc. The position builds relationships with community members including parents, volunteers, school district administration, and community partners with a measurable upward trajectory of program participation and growth. This position directly supervises two (2) full exempt program coordinators.

Responsibilities

Programmatic

• Ensure high-qulaity community-driven programs through innovative program development, evaluation, and ongoing training of staff.
• Facilitate the organization, management, and operation of high-quality childcare programs and establish new program activities.
• Champion a culture of best-in-class program quality and experience in all assigned areas, including on- and off-site programs, community partnerships and family events.
• Assure compliance with federal, state and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Ensure that YMCA programming aligns with all state, local, and YMCA quality standards.
• Develop safety plans for programming sites and ensure all safety standards are followed by site team members.
• Expand programming within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans and community needs and development.
• Develop and lead strategies to ensure members and/or program participants connect with and maintain their connection with each other and the YMCA.
• Partner with the Marketing Department to ensure effective promotion and visibility of all program areas.
• Cultivate and foster relationships with school principals, teachers, and district administration.
• Monitor and evaluate the success and effectiveness of programming through measured statistical evaluation data.

Operational

• Provide support to the annual fundraising campaign and volunteer committees/boards as assigned.
• Develop and manage annual budget for program areas. Ensure programs operate within budget and program fees are collected through demonstrated sound fiscal management skills.
• Ensure a culture of inclusion that builds and celebrates diversity within the Y and our community.
• Meet and exceed monthly and annual goals including registration levels, year-over-year retention, penetration rates and participant progression.

Supervisory

• Onboard, train, develop, engage, and retain Youth Development and Teen REACH team members.
• Review and evaluate staff performance. Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals, foster staff engagement and development.
• Utilize YMCA tools and standards in completing and administering performance evaluations and individual development plans.
• Plan and organize staff meetings to ensure consistent communication, direction, and accountability.
• Manage bi-weekly Youth Development payroll hours for accuracy and approval. Ensure team members are following timekeeping guidelines.
• Develop and lead strategies to ensure Youth Development team members connect with each other and other YMCA team members to foster a sense of community and servant leadership.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

• Three (3) to five (5) years of related field experience.
• Knowledge of early childhood programming, school age childcare programming and summer camp experience.
• Strong sense of faith and optimism.
• Willingness to be a servant leader.
• Fun, creative and imaginative mind is desired to continue the program growth trajectory.
• Communication proficiency in Spanish, both verbal and written.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

• Ability to work in excess of a 40-hour week with irregular work hours, if needed.
• Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
• Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
• Perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time.
• Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time.
• Will work seasonally in outdoor environments in varying weather conditions, including heat and humidity.
• Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
• Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
• Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
• Ability to collaborate with others and contribute to a positive team-environment.
• Ability to view/enter data for long periods of time.

Posted Salary Range

• USD $48,641.00 - USD $60,801.00 /Yr.
