PAY RANGE: $190,000 - 200,000

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director – Transformation Strategy & Analytics (D-TSA) is the operational and analytical architect of the TOE Office. This role functions as the “COO of Transformation” and as the analytics and data enablement leader for the TOE Office ensuring that every initiative has a quantified business case from day one, clear ROI targets, disciplined benefits tracking, appropriate system support, and data-driven performance management.

The D-TSA builds the analytics and measurement backbone that enables VMG to improve performance over time—through consistent KPI definitions, baseline establishment, data capture plans, dashboards, and decision-grade insights. The D-TSA partners closely with Operations, Finance, IT, and functional leaders to ensure that improvement initiatives translate into real, ledger-traceable outcomes. The Director also serves as the analytic and insight-generation arm of business transformation and is a key strategic partner to executive leadership to develop an analytical, data-driven culture across VMG.

Over time, the D-TSA is expected to broaden beyond analytics into direct operational leadership responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

(This list is not intended to detail all aspects of the assigned work but is representative of the job’s overall responsibilities.)

As D-TSA, you will:

  • Serve as the “COO of Transformation” building business cases, validating ROI, and ensuring benefits are tracked, audited, and reconciled to real P&L outcomes
  • Create the analytics foundation that enables operational excellence—standardizing KPIs, dashboards, and data definitions across multiple shipyards and business units
  • Partner with Operations, Finance, and IT to design practical data architectures and reporting tools that drive daily decision-making
  • Identify and quantify new performance opportunities through structured, hypothesis-driven analysis
  • Provide decision support to executive leadership and the Transformation Steering Committee
  • Establish portfolio governance routines and ensure every initiative has clear ownership, baselines, and measurable results
  • Lead change management for analytics adoption—helping leaders and teams use data effectively in day-to-day operations

This is not a back-office analytics role. It is a strategic leadership position at the center of VMG’s operational transformation, with direct visibility to senior executives and the opportunity to influence enterprise-wide performance.

WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS

VMG is investing heavily in operational excellence to support national security, commercial customers, and the 2,700 employees who power our shipyards every day. The D-TSA will be a central figure in that effort—building the systems and insights that help the company perform safer, faster, better, and more profitably.

This position is also designed as a high-potential leadership development role, with opportunities over time to expand into broader transformation or operational leadership responsibilities.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • 6–10 years of experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, operations finance, analytics, or operational improvement
  • Strong financial acumen and a track record of building credible business cases and delivering measurable value
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex operational environments into clear metrics, dashboards, and insights
  • Hands-on experience with BI and analytics tools (Power BI/Tableau, SQL) and comfort working with imperfect real-world data
  • The ability to influence without authority and partner effectively across Operations, Finance, and IT
  • Excellent executive communication skills and a structured problem-solving mindset
  • Experience in heavy industrial, manufacturing, or ship repair environments is a plus—but not required.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or relevant master’s degree preferred (business, engineering, economics, analytics).
  • 6–10 years of experience including at least one of: management consulting, corporate strategy, operations finance, or operational improvement.
