Job description

Who we are

We’re The Beck Group , the largest and most innovative integrated building firm in the country. We are focused on delivering design and construction excellence on a broad range of project types. Headquartered in downtown Dallas, with offices in Atlanta, Austin, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Worth, Mexico City, and Tampa, we believe a better process and outcome results from working together. At Beck, you will find yourself surrounded by passionate colleagues who have a collaborative mindset and care about each other. We are committed to hiring the best and brightest within our industry, and that’s why we are seeking experienced professionals like you to help transform the industry and continue building Beck’s respected reputation.

About The Beck Group

The Beck Group is an integrated architecture, engineering, and construction firm. Sustainability is part of how we design and build. We are signatories of the AIA 2030 Commitment and AIA Materials Pledge, as well as a LEED Proven Provider. More than 220 of our people hold LEED Accredited Professional credentials. Our in-house sustainability team serves Beck projects and is also hired by outside clients and other general contractors, which few firms our size can claim.

The Role

The Director of Sustainability leads and manages Beck’s Responsive Design team of three, delivering LEED, WELL, and Fitwel certifications, building energy modeling, and sustainability strategy consulting on medium to large commercial architecture and construction projects. You will work with regional directors, project teams, clients, and the Leadership Group to advance Beck’s approach to reducing environmental impact through design and construction, and you will oversee delivery of the Responsive Design Goals and the sustainability project portfolio.

This is a player-coach role. You will set technical direction, review and sign off on team deliverables, and step into complex client conversations while building a department that is respected internally and sought after externally.

What You Will Do
Lead the team and the service line
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of three sustainability professionals, including workload planning, performance management, and career growth.
  • Oversee delivery of LEED, WELL, and Fitwel certifications, energy modeling, and sustainability strategy consulting across Beck’s project portfolio and external consulting engagements.
  • Set quality standards and workflows so deliverables are accurate, on schedule, and consistent across regions.
  • Manage the financial health of the department, including budgets, utilization, fee structures, and staffing plans.
Drive sustainability strategy
  • Work with regional and departmental directors to review and advance the -Responsive Design Goal, giving timely, constructive, and transparent feedback.
  • Evaluate firm-wide design and construction sustainability programs, policies, and processes, and identify opportunities to strengthen Beck’s commitment.
  • Develop and implement policies and workflows that address emerging sustainability issues, trends, and regulations in design and construction.
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and proposals on progress against the Responsive Design Goal, and recommend new service offerings to the Leadership Group.
Grow the business
  • Lead business development for sustainability services, maintain client relationships, and respond to RFPs, RFQs, and proposals.
  • Advise clients on balancing sustainability goals, certification pathways, and project budgets, particularly in a capital-constrained market.
  • Represent Beck’s sustainability expertise to clients, industry groups, and the public.
Build organizational capability
  • Identify, develop, and facilitate training that builds sustainability knowledge, best practices, and an understanding of complex project trade-offs across the firm.
  • Ensure project teams understand and comply with applicable local, state, and federal environmental laws and regulations.
What You Bring
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in architecture, engineering, construction, building science, environmental design, or a related field.
  • 10 or more years of relevant experience, including successfully leading sustainability consulting on multiple large, complex projects.
  • LEED AP BD+C credential.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, developing, and managing a team.
  • Experience with business development, proposals, and client relationship management.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to work with executives, owners, design teams, and construction teams.
Preferred
  • WELL Accredited Professional.
  • Fitwel Ambassador.
  • Experience managing a department budget or P&L.
  • Experience in an integrated design and construction environment.
  • Familiarity with AIA 2030 Commitment reporting and carbon accounting.
How You Work

You are customer-focused, make sound decisions with imperfect information, and delegate well. You develop the people around you, manage and measure work through clear systems, communicate with confidence, and build teamwork across offices and disciplines. You can step back and see the bigger picture.

Why Beck
  • Lead an established, in-house sustainability practice with a national scope and a visible role in the firm’s strategy.
  • Work across design and construction on commercial, higher education, institutional, and other complex projects.
  • Join a firm with long-standing public sustainability commitments and a deep bench of credentialed professionals.
  • Compensation range, benefits, and ownership or profit-sharing details
