Job summary

Specialized Education Services, Inc. (SESI) in Philadelphia seeks a Director of Special Education to lead and coordinate the SPED program across campuses.

You will work with the Director and resource team to mentor classroom staff and ensure high-quality services for students with diverse needs. You will recruit and onboard new staff, oversee IEP processes, and partner with districts, parents, and the community to sustain compliant and effective education plans.

Qualifications

• Level 2 Special Education Certificate in PA required.
• Experience coaching staff in a school setting.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Experience recording and analyzing data with Excel and Google Drive.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, manage, assess needs and determine student assignment for SPED.
• Assist Principal with recruiting, interviewing and onboarding campus staff.
• Develop and implement transition planning and services/Indicator 13.
• Maintain IEP databases and student file systems.
• Prepare and attend IEP meetings and ensure ISBE compliance.
• Plan staff and parent education for SPED programs.
• Maintain relationships with school district, parents and community.
• Provide and monitor crisis intervention at the school.
• Organize, plan and deliver professional development sessions.
• Participate in Education Committee meetings and relay information.

What you can expect to do.

The Director of SPED will work closely with the Director and resource team to coordinate and evaluate the educational program. The Instructional Specialist will act as a mentor and resource to the classroom staff and work closely with all departments on implanting the educational programs. In conjunction with the school Director, this position will be a key player in recruiting, interviewing, selecting, and overseeing the onboarding of new staff.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Work closely with classroom staff to coordinate, manage, assess needs and determine student assignment in regards to special education programs
• Assist Principal with recruiting, interviewing and on-boarding new campus staff members
• Develop and implement transition planning and services/Indicator 13
• Maintain IEP database and student file scan database
• Prepare and attend students’ IEP meetings, assure documentation is accurately completed prior to the meeting and provide on-going monitoring to ensure ISBE compliance of students’ IEPs
• Plan and implement staff and parent education relating to special education programs
• Maintains close working relationship with school district, parents and community
• Provide and monitor crisis intervention at the school
• Organize, plan and deliver training for professional development and staff meetings
• Actively participate in Education Committee meetings and relay information to the resource team

Qualifications

• Level 2 Special Education Certificate in PA required.
• Experience working with similar population in a school setting preferred
• Experience working with staff in a coaching capacity
• Strong professional communication skills both oral and written
• Ability to record and analyze data utilizing excel and google drive

Posted Min Pay Rate

USD $90.00/Yr.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to run short distances and move swiftly in response to student needs, including bending, kneeling, and crouching.
• Ability to lift and assist students with mobility challenges, often requiring the handling of up to 50 pounds or more.
• Skill in managing fine motor tasks, such as helping students with writing, manipulating small objects, or using adaptive devices.
• Ability to operate a computer or tablet for up to 8 hours daily.
• Capacity to notice and respond to non-verbal cues from students
• Capacity to remain calm and composed during physically and emotional demanding situations, ensuring student safety and well-being
