Job description

Credit Acceptance is proud to be an award‑winning company recognized both locally and nationally across multiple workplace categories. Our world‑class culture is shaped by dedicated team members who are driven to succeed as professionals individually and together as a team. Backed by a strong product, exceptional people, and a stable financial foundation, we’ve grown into a leading provider of used and new car financing across the country. Our Engineering and Analytics Team Members utilize the latest technology to develop, monitor, and maintain complex practices that help optimize our success. Our Team Members value being challenged, are encouraged to express their ideas, and have the flexibility to enjoy work life balance. We build intrinsic value by partnering with all functions of our business to support their success and make strategic business decisions. We focus on professional development and continuous improvement while enjoying a casual work environment and Great Place to Work culture!

The Director of Software Engineering, Platform Services will help to modernize the engineering organization at Credit Acceptance by building and leading teams that deliver two sets of capabilities: the tooling, templates and standards that engineers use to build software, and the shared engineering services that multiple parts of the organization depend on, including internal products such as payments, notifications, consent and document intelligence.

This role will be responsible for consolidating services that are used by multiple parts of the organization into a single place, eliminating duplication and modernizing the technology. Credit Acceptance is adopting AI‑assisted and specification‑driven development across its engineering organization, and this role will lead that work. It includes the software development lifecycle and the tooling that supports it, the development environments engineers work in, the AI coding assistants and agent development frameworks they use, the golden path templates and reference implementations that make recommended practices the default, and the measurement of whether these investments are improving engineering productivity.

The ideal candidate is someone who can build and lead a platform engineering team to create the foundational tooling and services for Credit Acceptance’s scaling while also creating process and structure for the company’s growth. They should create a team culture of amplifying scale and creating strong advocates within the product verticals. They should have experience leading a high‑performance horizontal engineering team, identifying what the company needs and achieving outcomes that push the company forward and accelerate engineering velocity and productivity. Equally important is a track record of delivering internal developer tooling and shared services as products, with the adoption and operational ownership that comes with them.
