Job description

Director of Commissioning and Service/Aftermarket

Hydrec is representing one of the best-funded, fastest-growing startups in water technology, and we're looking for an operational leader to own every customer deployment from pilot through long-term commercial operations.

Their proprietary treatment technology enables retrofits that conventional systems simply can't handle, unlocking new opportunities for water reuse and resource recovery for some of the world's largest industrial companies.

About the Role

Industrial systems don't always behave as expected. When they don't, customers need someone who can solve real technical and operational problems in real time.

As Director of Commissioning and Service, you'll lead a team of field engineers and account managers responsible for exceptional execution across the customer lifecycle: pilots, commissioning, and into commercial operations. Your team will do the hands-on troubleshooting; you'll provide leadership through uncertainty - setting priorities, coordinating cross-functional resources, and keeping customers confident every step of the way.

This role sits on the Senior Leadership Team, interacts with the Board, and reports to the CEO.

What You'll Do
  • Own the successful execution of pilots, commissioning, and commercial operations across multiple customer sites
  • Guide technical decision-making during commissioning, startup, and field support
  • Build trusted, long-term relationships that position us as customers' strategic partner
  • Lead, coach, and grow a high-performing field organization — recruiting, forecasting, and building the systems that let the team scale
  • Partner with Sales, Engineering, and Product to close the loop between field lessons and better products
  • Establish the operating discipline - dashboards, KPIs, standardized processes that keeps execution consistent as the business grows fast
What We're Looking For
  • 10+ years leading customer-facing technical organizations in field execution, commissioning, operations, or technical service
  • Proven track record building and developing multidisciplinary engineering or field service teams
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental, or related)
  • Experience commissioning or supporting industrial water and wastewater treatment systems, including retrofit projects in live operating facilities
  • Comfortable solving complex problems with incomplete information and shifting priorities
  • Exceptional communicator, able to build trust with customers and influence cross-functional teams
  • Willingness to travel ~30-50% to support field operations
Nice to have:

experience scaling a first-of-a-kind industrial technology, familiarity with membrane or electrochemical water treatment, and experience serving industrial sectors like semiconductor, metal finishing, or food & beverage manufacturing.

What They Offer
  • Competitive salary, bonus, and meaningful equity
  • Relocation assistance for exceptional candidates
  • Full medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • 401(k) with company contribution
  • Paid time off and parental leave
  • The chance to help build one of the world's leading water technology companies
