Job description

The Director of Public Works serves as the County’s senior leader for infrastructure and pub-lic works services, providing strategic direction, operational oversight, and policy guidance across multiple functional areas. The position leads a $25 million operating and capital pro-gram and directs a skilled management team responsible for delivering essential services countywide.

The Director holds key statutory and regional leadership roles, including Executive Director for multiple special districts and commissions. This role requires leading complex capital projects, coordinating multi-agency initiatives, securing and managing funding, and repre-senting the County at regional, state, and community levels.

Success in this role requires the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments, bal-ance competing priorities, and deliver results in a highly visible and impactful leadership position.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education and Experience:

• Equivalent to the completion of twelfth (12th) grade & graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in a related field.
• Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in Public Works, Engineering, Construction or other related field with three (3) years in the supervisory capacity.
