Data Axle is looking for a Director of Product Management to lead a portfolio of data and AI-powered experiences serving mid-market and enterprise customers. You will set product strategy, own roadmaps, drive discovery, and work closely with engineering, data science, sales, and GTM teams to deliver products that create real commercial value.
You are the voice of the customer in platform planning. You define what the customer needs to be able to do, which informs what the platform needs to build. You own what the customer sees, how they onboard, how they derive value, and how the product feels across mid-market and enterprise segments.
You have deep experience with enterprise buyers, a strong instinct for experience design across complex data and AI products, and the ability to work fluently in both directions — upstream with platform teams to shape what gets built, and downstream with GTM to ensure what ships drives pipeline and retention. You will manage and develop a team of PMs, set the standard for discovery and customer insight, and measure your success as much by team growth as by what ships.
This role is not a coordination function, a feature intake queue, or a GTM support role. You will have real influence over product direction, real accountability for customer outcomes, and real expectation to push back — on platform when capabilities aren't ready to be customer-facing, and on GTM when market pressure is driving the wrong product choices.
Why This Role, Why Now
Data Axle is at an inflection point. We have a 50+ year heritage in B2B data, world-class data assets, and a platform being actively reimagined around AI and agentic capabilities. We are also bringing internal data processing capabilities to market as commercial products for the first time.
The platform foundation is being built. The GTM motion is in place. What we need now is the experience layer — someone who can listen to customers, identify what they need, and translate that into clear direction for the platform team and compelling experiences for the market. That is this role.
What You'll Do
Customer Experience Strategy & Roadmap
- Own the end-to-end customer experience roadmap across the portfolio — from first login through deep adoption and expansion
- Define experience principles that translate complex data and AI capabilities into intuitive, high-value product surfaces for mid-market and enterprise users
- Identify gaps between what customers need and what they can currently access, understand, and act on — and drive the requirements that close them
- Lead experience reviews with executive, platform, and GTM stakeholders
Discovery & Customer Insight
- Drive continuous discovery with mid-market and enterprise buyers — buying committees, end users, data and IT stakeholders, and economic buyers
- Own the customer feedback loop end-to-end — synthesizing signal from sales cycles, onboarding friction, support data, churn analysis, and expansion patterns into prioritized experience and platform requirements
- Design and run experiments to validate experience bets before committing engineering capacity
AI Experience & Data Product Surfaces
- Define how AI and agentic capabilities are surfaced to customers — copilot interfaces, insight delivery, guided workflows, and transparent agent actions
- Own the experience design of AI-powered features: how results are explained, how confidence is communicated, how users correct or override the system, and how trust is built over time
- Translate customer expectations and experience requirements into clear AI capability needs for the platform team
- Ensure AI-facing surfaces are explainable, appropriately scoped, and compliant with legal and privacy requirements — particularly for enrichment, identity, and audience activation use cases
- Define experience standards for Data Processing Services as they come to market — onboarding flows, status transparency, error handling, SLA visibility, and self-serve vs. managed touchpoints
- Maintain strong working knowledge of the B2B data stack so you can make informed, credible capability requests of the platform team
Influencing Platform & Partnering with GTM
- Serve as the primary customer voice in platform planning — translating experience gaps and customer needs into capability requirements that inform the platform roadmap
- Build strong working relationships with platform leadership so that customer-driven priorities are understood, credible, and reflected in what gets built
- Partner with GTM on demo narratives, onboarding design, and customer success touchpoints — ensuring the experience supports the commercial motion
- Define what needs to be true about a customer experience before a new platform capability is ready to be exposed to users — and advocate for that bar being met before launch
- Directly manage a team of PMs — set clear expectations, run structured 1:1s, and create conditions for great work
- Develop your team's craft: discovery rigor, customer empathy, written clarity, and the ability to translate customer needs into sharp platform requirements
- Build a culture of intellectual honesty — roadmaps grounded in evidence, product reviews where the team debates rather than presents, and a bias toward learning over shipping assumptions
- Partner with recruiting to build a hiring bar that raises the team average
What You'll Be Accountable For
- Customer adoption and time-to-value — how quickly customers activate and reach first value across segments
- Feature engagement — depth and breadth of capability usage within the customer base
- Experience-driven retention — product-side contribution to gross and net revenue retention in mid-market and enterprise
- Onboarding and expansion metrics — funnel conversion, onboarding completion, and expansion trigger rates
- AI experience quality — user correction rates, task completion, explainability ratings, and trust indicators for AI-powered surfaces
- Team health — PM retention, career progression, and cross-functional partner feedback
What We're Looking For
Required (Non-Negotiable)
- 10+ years in product management, including 3+ years at Director level owning customer-facing product experience across a multi-product portfolio
- Proven track record defining and shipping experiences for mid-market and enterprise customers — you understand the complexity of enterprise onboarding, multi-persona products, and the gap between capability and adoption
- Demonstrated experience managing and developing PM direct reports — owning performance, growth, and career development with clear examples of up-leveling individuals and teams
- Proven ability to influence platform and engineering roadmaps through customer insight and experience strategy — comfortable working in a model where you set the direction and partner teams own the execution
- Strong AI product experience — shipped customer-facing AI features in production with defined success metrics; ability to make informed decisions about how AI capabilities are surfaced, explained, and controlled in UX without owning the underlying infrastructure
- Deep B2B data product experience — enrichment, segmentation, data quality, identity resolution, or CDP-adjacent workflows; you understand what these capabilities do well enough to define great experiences on top of them and credible requirements beneath them
- Prior experience with data processing services — familiarity with how batch and streaming pipelines, enrichment, cleansing, and fulfillment are delivered as products, and what customers expect around transparency, control, and SLAs
- Excellent communication — crisp experience briefs and PRDs, sharp presentations, comfortable with both engineering teams and C-suite audiences
Strongly Preferred
- Vertical market experience in healthcare (providers, payers, or health systems as buyers; HIPAA-adjacent data considerations) or home services (contractor networks, local service marketplaces, or field service platforms)
- Familiarity with SMB market dynamics and the design implications of serving less technical, higher-velocity users
- Experience designing AI explainability and transparency surfaces — communicating model confidence, agent actions, and system limitations in ways that build rather than erode user trust
- Familiarity with AI evaluation from an experience lens — user correction rates, task completion, perceived accuracy, and trust metrics
- Experience with knowledge graphs, large-scale B2B data assets, or data activation platforms
- Competitive knowledge of the CDP and B2B data activation landscape — Salesforce, Adobe, Twilio Segment, and emerging AI-native players
You Are...
- Customer-obsessed without losing commercial sharpness — you advocate hard for the user experience and understand exactly how it connects to retention and revenue
- A strong cross-functional operator — platform teams find your requirements credible and well-reasoned, GTM teams find you commercially sharp, and both feel like you're pulling in the same direction
- Technically fluent — you don't own the platform but you speak its language; you understand enough about AI, data pipelines, and processing architecture to ask the right questions and push back intelligently
- A developer of people — genuine satisfaction from watching someone on your team grow into something they couldn't do before
- A strong writer — crisp experience briefs, sharp PRDs, clear escalation memos
- Opinionated and evidence-driven — you bring the customer receipts, make the call, and have the confidence to say "this isn't ready to ship" when the experience isn't there yet
Jira, Confluence, Figma, Databricks, Salesforce, and a modern cloud data stack. You don't need to write production code but should be comfortable reading a data schema, understanding a pipeline architecture, and having an informed opinion on what platform capabilities are actually ready for customer exposure. Travel estimated at 10–15% annually.
