The Director of Procurement will lead the organization’s purchasing and sourcing function, with responsibility for developing procurement practices that support cost efficiency, reliable supply, effective inventory management, and overall business performance. This role will oversee supplier strategy, purchasing activities, procurement analytics, and team leadership while working closely with senior leadership and other business functions.
The Director will be responsible for identifying opportunities to improve purchasing decisions, strengthen vendor partnerships, increase consistency across procurement activities, and ensure materials are available to support business needs. This individual will use financial and operational data to measure results, identify opportunities, and continuously improve the effectiveness of the procurement function.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute procurement strategies that support business objectives, cost management, and operational needs.
- Lead sourcing, purchasing, and vendor management activities across the organization.
- Lead, develop, and provide direction to the procurement team.
- Build and maintain productive supplier relationships while monitoring pricing, service, quality, and delivery performance.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, agreements, and other commercial arrangements with suppliers.
- Identify and implement opportunities to reduce material costs and improve overall profitability.
- Establish greater consistency in purchasing practices by standardizing materials and increasing utilization of preferred suppliers.
- Oversee purchasing activities and improve planning practices to minimize unplanned or emergency purchases.
- Partner with appropriate business functions to maintain material availability while managing inventory levels effectively.
- Use procurement and operational data to evaluate purchasing performance, identify trends, measure savings, and support decision-making.
- Monitor key measures related to procurement savings, pricing variances, supplier utilization, delivery performance, emergency purchasing, and inventory efficiency.
- Establish and maintain procurement processes and practices that support efficient and consistent purchasing activities.
- Partner with senior leadership and other stakeholders on procurement priorities and broader business initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Finance, Operations, or a related field; MBA preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive procurement, sourcing, or purchasing experience.
- 5+ years of experience leading procurement teams or functions.
- Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
- Strong background in supplier management, contract negotiation, strategic sourcing, and cost management.
- Experience using ERP systems and analytics to support procurement activities and decision-making.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate costs, supplier performance, purchasing trends, and operational needs.
