Job summary

Adesis Inc. in New Castle, DE is seeking a senior leader with a strong chemistry background to guide industrial small‑molecule processes from R&D to manufacturing, aligning internal goals with customer needs.

The role requires deep expertise in process optimization, scale-up, DoE and data analysis, and effective communication with internal teams and external partners. Domestic and international travel up to 10% is expected.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • 10+ years in chemical manufacturing (pharma or specialty) with focus on synthetic chemistry, route & process development.
  • Experience sourcing chemical materials for manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of process safety, quality control, and regulatory compliance.
  • Leadership and teamwork in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Expertise in synthetic chemistry and scale-up of processes.
  • Design of Experiments using Minitab, JMP, or similar.

Responsibilities

  • Apply stage gate process to advance projects from R&D to manufacturing, meeting technical, financial, regulatory, and quality requirements.
  • Chair the Strategic Project Oversight Committee to ensure resources, timelines, and transfer to US and Ireland sites.
  • Review product development and tech transfer to implement workflow improvements.
  • Lead group of process chemists, engineers, and PMs as tech transfer resources.
  • Ensure all product development facets meet internal, customer, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with supply chain to identify and onboard new suppliers.
  • Evaluate scalability with R&D, manufacturing, and quality; propose improvements.

Job Summary:

The position requires a strong chemistry background, particularly in the context of industrial small-molecule chemical processes, as well as knowledge in sourcing strategies, supplier management, quality control and cost optimization. The role will provide technical leadership ensuring alignment between internal product development goals and customer requirements. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of chemical processes, data analysis, and process scale-up, along with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both internal teams and external partners. They will hold a BS or PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with significant experience in process optimization, scale-up, validation, and chemical manufacturing within the pharmaceutical or specialty chemical industries.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work with internal stakeholders and customers to apply Adesis’ stage gate development process to advance projects from R&D to manufacturing, meeting all technical, financial, regulatory, and quality requirements.
  • Chair the Strategic Project Oversight Committee, consisting of functional leaders across the organization, to ensure projects are appropriately resourced, timelines are met, and stage gate development is effectively applied to transfer robust products/processes to US and Ireland manufacturing sites
  • Review existing product development and tech transfer process to implement workflow enhancements and efficiency improvements
  • Lead group of process chemists, engineers, and project managers serving as tech transfer resources on multi-disciplinary project teams
  • Ensure all facets of product development – process, test method, raw materials, etc - are effectively executed to meet internal, customer, and regulatory requirements
  • Work with Adesis’ supply chain team to identify and onboard new suppliers as required for each project
  • Work with R&D, manufacturing, and quality to evaluate scalability of laboratory processes for ongoing manufacturing; recommend improvements and alternate routes as appropriate
  • Use statistical tools (Cp, Cpk, control charting) to assess process capability to reliably meet product specifications
  • Provide technical guidance to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations throughout the supply chain and manufacturing processes.
RequiredQualifications:
  • BS or MS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years in the chemical manufacturing industry (pharmaceutical or specialty) with a strong focus on synthetic chemistry, route development, process development, technology transfer and industrial-scale processes
  • Proven experience in sourcing chemical materials, reagents, and intermediates for manufacturing processes desirable
  • Strong understanding of process safety, quality control, and regulatory compliance in chemical manufacturing, preferably in an ISO or FDA-compliant environment
  • Leadership, strong communication and team-work skills with ability to perform and succeed in a multi-disciplinary, high-paced team environment
  • Excellent knowledge of synthetic chemistry, process optimization, and scale-up
  • Knowledgeable in the design, execution, and analysis of multifactor Design of Experiments (DoE) using Minitab, JMP, or similar software
  • Knowledge of cost optimization strategies and risk management in a technical sourcing environment
  • Understanding of chemical characterization processes including test method development and validationDemonstrated drive and proven track record of taking on challenging problems and create innovative solutions
  • Experience scaling up multi-step, organic synthesis process from kg to 1,000L+ reactors
