Job summary

UnitedHealth Group’s CPS division seeks a Director of Pharmacy to lead hospital pharmacy services in Oaklawn Hospital. The role focuses on strategic direction, clinical excellence, and financial stewardship to improve patient outcomes.

Lead a team of pharmacists and technicians, ensure 24/7 operations, and maintain compliance with Joint Commission and state/federal requirements while driving cost containment and process improvements across the pharmacy program.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee pharmacy financial performance, including budgeting, purchasing, contract management, and cost-containment initiatives
  • Collaborate with executive leadership and interdisciplinary stakeholders, supporting system-wide patient care, quality, and safety initiatives
  • Drive innovation, performance improvement, and strategic growth, leveraging data, technology, and best practices to advance pharmacy services

Schedule:

This full-time, exempt position will work a minimum of 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.

Location:

Oaklawn Hospital was founded in 1925 as a 12-bed hospital in a residential home, funded by a group of visionary philanthropists. Now, over 100 years later, we are licensed for 77 acute care beds and a 17-bed inpatient psychiatric unit. Our service area includes Calhoun County and parts of Branch and Eaton counties with a medical staff of more than 300 providers representing over 50 specialties.

Pharmacy Hours:

Pharmacy hours are 24/7. The pharmacy utilizes Cerner and Pyxis.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all pharmacy services within a single hospital, aligning operations with the hospital’s clinical, quality, and financial goals
  • Ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based medication use, overseeing clinical pharmacy practice, medication safety, and formulary management
  • Lead, develop, and hold accountability for pharmacy leadership and staff, including managers, pharmacists, technicians, and support teams
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and legal requirements, including Joint Commission, CMS, USP, BOP and state/federal laws

Required Qualifications:
  • Current Michigan Pharmacist license in good standing
  • Current MI Controlled Substance license or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PharmD
  • 3+ years of pharmacy management experience working in an acute care hospital setting
  • Experience with 340B

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $112,700 - $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
