Job summary

First State Community Bank seeks a Director of Payments to lead enterprise-wide payments strategy, innovation, and execution. This role shapes how money moves across the bank and with partners, delivering secure, seamless experiences for businesses and consumers.

You will manage vendor relationships, steer real-time payments and embedded finance initiatives, track KPIs, ensure compliance, and partner across IT, Compliance, Risk, and Retail to drive strategic initiatives.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in payments strategy, product development, or treasury management in financial institutions or fintech.
• Strong understanding of payment systems including ACH, wires, card networks, mobile payments, and real-time payments (TCH, FedNow).
• Experience working with core and digital banking platforms (e.g., Jack Henry, Q2) and payment vendors.
• Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing teams and cross-functional initiatives.
• Excellent communication, analytical, and project management skills.
• Ability to travel occasionally for conferences, vendor meetings, or market visits.
• A passion for innovation, customer experience, and the future of financial services.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long durations (e.g., 6-8 hours with breaks).
• Occasionally required to stand or walk short distances.

• Occasionally lifting office supplies, files and small packages (typically up to 10-25 lbs.)
• Ability to hear and understand spoken communication, including customer (internal and external) inquiries and phone conversations.
• Ability to speak clearly and be understood in person and over the phone.
