Job summary

Crete United's Relco Electric division in South Easton, MA is seeking a Director of Operations to lead and optimize the company's construction activities. You will oversee project management, field operations, manpower planning, procurement, safety, quality, and project execution to ensure safety, schedule, and profitability.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in electrical construction or related commercial/industrial construction operations.
  • Experience leading multiple construction projects and operational teams.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical construction, project management, scheduling, estimating, labor productivity, procurement, and cost control.
  • Demonstrated understanding of project financials, forecasting, change orders, contracts, and risk management.
  • Experience leading and developing Project Managers, Superintendents, Foremen, and field personnel.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the day-to-day operations of the company's construction activities and provide leadership to Project Managers, Superintendents, General Foremen, and other operational personnel.
  • Establish clear operating priorities, expectations, accountability, and performance standards.
  • Oversee project execution from turnover through completion, ensuring projects are adequately staffed, scheduled, resourced, and managed.
  • Review project performance regularly and intervene early when projects are experiencing financial, schedule, labor, safety, or customer issues.
  • Establish consistent project turnover, planning, scheduling, and closeout processes.
  • Ensure effective communication between estimating, project management, field operations, purchasing, finance, and safety.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement practical improvements that increase productivity and profitability.
  • Maintain accountability for operational and project financial performance.
  • Partner with the GM/Controller and Project Managers to monitor budgets, labor costs, productivity, committed costs, forecasts, and projected final costs.
  • Review work-in-progress and project forecasts to identify financial risks.
  • Establish corrective action plans for underperforming projects and monitor results.
  • Improve labor productivity, material utilization, equipment efficiency, and overall project profitability.
  • Participate in annual budgeting, forecasting, strategic planning, and operational goal setting.
  • Ensure lessons learned from completed projects are incorporated into future estimating and operations.
  • Develop manpower plans based on current backlog, upcoming work, project schedules, and anticipated business growth.
  • Ensure the company maintains the appropriate level and mix of electricians, foremen, apprentices, and support personnel.
  • Coordinate workforce allocation between projects to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
  • Partner with Human Resources and field leadership on recruiting, retention, training, and employee development.

You’ll be working closely with the General Manager, Estimating, Project Management, and Field Leadership, the Director of Operations ensures that projects are properly planned, staffed, scheduled, executed, and completed safely and profitably.

What We Expect From You

Safety & Quality
  • Champion a company-wide culture of safety and operational accountability.
  • Partner with the Safety Department to ensure compliance with OSHA requirements, company policies, and project-specific safety standards.
  • Hold operational leaders accountable for safety performance.
  • Establish and maintain consistent quality-control standards.
  • Reduce rework, callbacks, warranty costs, and preventable deficiencies.
  • Ensure field operations meet contract requirements, specifications, applicable codes, and company standards.
Estimating, Preconstruction & Business Support
  • Work closely with Estimating during project turnover and preconstruction.
  • Provide operational input regarding labor requirements, constructability, scheduling, procurement, risks, and execution strategy.
  • Participate in bid reviews and major project opportunities when appropriate.
  • Ensure operational assumptions used during estimating are realistic and aligned with field execution capabilities.
  • Provide feedback to estimating based on actual project performance.
  • Support the GM with strategic planning, major customer opportunities, and company growth initiatives.
Customer & Project Relationships
  • Maintain strong relationships with key customers, general contractors, owners, and strategic partners.
  • Assist with escalated project, contract, schedule, and customer issues.
  • Represent the company professionally in customer meetings and industry relationships.
  • Support the General Manager in maintaining key strategic accounts.
