Job summary

Momentum Environmental seeks a Director of Operations to lead location-wide operations and ensure services are delivered safely and to high quality standards. You will align field teams with Sales, Finance and Compliance to meet Momentum's quality expectations, reporting to the Senior VP of Operations.

You will oversee budgets, schedules, and resources for regional projects, drive health and safety programs, and partner with cross-functional teams to optimize profitability and processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or associate degree in environmental science, chemistry or engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in the environmental service industry.
  • General knowledge of OSHA/EPA compliance and DOT regulations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, SharePoint).
  • Strong communication and analytical skills; ability to lead teams.

Responsibilities

  • Manage operational and logistical elements for the assigned location.
  • Coordinate with Directors in other locations regarding scheduling and logistics.
  • Serve as environmental and industrial subject matter expert for field teams.
  • Oversee scope, schedule, and budget of regional projects and ensure teams are properly equipped.
  • Lead health and safety initiatives within the program.
  • Maintain regular contact with customers and update on conditions.
  • Assist with estimating and proposal writing for select customers and projects.
  • Develop pricing controls and monitor project profitability with KPIs.
  • Support the development of business improvements as the company evolves.
  • Participate in technical training and SOP implementations.

Job description

Director of Operations

Momentum Environmental provides specialized environmental, industrial, and waste management services to several leading industries in the northeast. The Director of Operations (Director) works closely with management and customers to ensure all services are performed safely and to the greatest degree of quality possible. The Director is responsible for a wide variety of health and safety, technical and commercial elements associated with individual service and waste engagements. The Director serves as a liaison between the field teams and various departments, including Sales, Finance and Compliance, to ensure projects are operations meet Momentum's quality standards. The Director reports to the Senior Vice President of Operations.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Manages the operational and logistical business elements of the location to which the Director is assigned
  • Routinely coordinates with Directors in other locations regarding scheduling and logistics
  • Serves as an environmental and industrial subject matter expert and acts as a resource for the field teams
  • Maintains responsibility for the scope, schedule and budget of regional projects and works with operational leadership to ensure field and waste processing teams are properly equipped with labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors
  • Plays an active role in the Company’s Health and Safety Program
  • Maintains routine contact with customers and keeps them updated on changing conditions
  • Serves as growth-minded advocate for the sales and operations team, while keeping tight control over management processes and procedures
  • Performs estimating and proposal writing for select customers and projects by working closely with other members of the team
  • Supports the development of new business improvements as the business evolves
  • Participates in technical training, supports the installation of new and SOPs
  • Develops, implements, and monitors pricing controls.
  • Routinely tracks sales and profitability of service engagements using company KPIs
  • Tracks the performance of assigned projects on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • Works closely with shared resource groups (IT/ Finance) to implement and improve profitability tracking tools (per project, per financial period, etc.).
  • Identifies potential problems and works closely with other team members to resolve
Core Competencies
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in environmental science, Chemistry or Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in the environmental service industry
  • General knowledge of compliance of State and Regulatory requirements (i.e., OSHA, EPA, etc.)
  • General knowledge of DOT regulations
  • General knowledge of all available waste treatment, ER, industrial cleaning and remediation technologies
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office - PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and SharePoint
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to develop relationships and trust with a team
  • Strong communication skills: both written and verbal
  • Structured thinker with strong analytical skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with management, other departments, and vendors
  • Ability to inspire and build strong teams
Personal Protective Equipment
  • When working at a customer site or in a field environment, as appropriate, the ability to wear any of the following personal protective equipment (PPE) required:
  • Steel toe boots
  • Eye protection
  • Hearing protection
  • Gloves/ Hand protection
  • Fire resistant uniform
  • Others as required by OSHA, Internal EH&S, and customer/ site EH&S
Work Environment:

While performing essential duties of this position an individual regularly works in a variety of environments, and is required to see, talk, hear, reach with hands, stand, walk, drive frequently, use a computer keyboard, mouse, telephone, and other office equipment. Essential duties require bending, squatting, and twisting frequently. Employees will frequently be exposed to dirt, dust, and fumes.

Noise level of the environment is moderate but may vary depending on customer site visits. Occasionally it may be required to lift/move up to 75 lbs.
