Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Oversees interviewing, screening and recommended employment of all cafeteria personnel.
• Standardizes and administers personnel policies and evaluate cafeteria managers.
• Manages contracts for group purchasing and vendor bid processes as required by law or Board policy.
• Maintains inventory tracking system of all food supplies, other supplies and equipment.
• Ensures accuracy of school nutrition recordkeeping including bills, POs, and payroll for cafeteria personnel.
• Performs all claims reimbursement for school nutrition function.
• Implements fair pay practices for school nutrition personnel.
• Oversees technology solutions pertaining to school nutrition including menu planning, account activity and payroll.
• Standardizes cafeteria accounting procedures with Treasurer and Business Manager.

Job description

Overview:

The Director of School Nutrition Services is responsible for managing the school nutrition programs for the school corporation under the supervision of the Business Manager. Management responsibilities include personnel (including hiring and dismissal), assignment, supervision, and managing the departments financial systems and record-keeping. Additionally, the Director is responsible to supervise menu preparation, bidding and purchasing of food products and equipment, maintaining accurate records and preparing reports. Oversees and ensures the corporation is meeting all federal meal program regulations and serves as liaison with the Indiana Department of Education/Office of School and Community Nutrition.

Status:

Employee, full-time (240 day contract)

Minimum Qualifications and Skills Required:

A. Educational Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition or a closely related field.

B. Skills and Knowledge:

Experienced in food preparation, menu planning, food purchasing, managing personnel, strategic planning and implementation, financial management, technology application and implementation, nutrition standards, special dietary needs, record-keeping and reporting. Proficient and highly skilled in Google Suite.

C. Experience:

A minimum of three years of school nutrition management experience.

D. Other:

Maintains positive relationships with students, teachers, administrators, parents, patrons, and vendors.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Recommends and implements fair pay practices for all school nutrition personnel.
• Oversees all technology solutions that pertain to school nutrition including menu planning, account activity and payroll.
• Standardizes cafeteria accounting procedures and works withTreasurer and Business Manager to ensure accurate and complete bookkeeping.
• Submits applications for federal/state subsidy programs.
• Reviews and evaluates all requests and recommendations for purchase of new and replacement equipment.
• Provides direction when school renovation of school kitchen and cafeteria space is undertaken.
• Oversees the activities of direct reports, including Program Support Assistant, Assistant Director, and Cafeteria Managers.
• Inspects facilities and operations to ensure standards of diet, cleanliness, health and safety are maintained.
• Standardizes pricing structure for meals, ala carte and size of portions served.
• Keeps patrons and the public informed of the menus and services offered by the school nutrition program and of the health and educational benefits gained by children through participation in the program.
• Performs other school nutrition related duties as required.
