SUMMARY

TheDirector of Nursing assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability forthe delivery of nursing services in the facility. In collaboration withfacility administration, the Director allocates department resources in anefficient and cost-effective manner to enable each resident to attain ormaintain their highest practical physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.This role involves collaboration with other departments, medical professionals,consultants, and external organizations, including government agencies andadvocacy groups, to support, coordinate, and represent the facility’scare-related and administrative functions. The Director of Nursing plans,organizes, directs, and oversees medical and rehabilitation services incompliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develops, maintains, and implementsnursing policies and procedures in alignment with current standards ofpractice, facility philosophy, operational policies, and applicable laws andregulations
• Participates in admission decisionsand may assess prospective residents at MMH, in their home, or in the hospital
• Attends weekly meetings withsupervisors and/or nursing staff to review resident status, census changes,staffing, and concerns from residents or families
• Overseas recruitment, hiring, andtermination of nursing staff; ensures appropriate staffing levels and thatstaff are adequately trained and scheduled
• Evaluates nursing staff performancedirectly or indirectly
• Becomes an Eden Alternative Associateand promotes Eden philosophy through language and cultural practices
• Ensures delivery of compassionate,high-quality care as demonstrated by appropriate staffing, clean environments,odor control, pressure wound prevention, and resident wellness
• Demonstrates a working knowledge ofclinical quality indicators and proactively monitors systems to meet or exceedbenchmarks
• Oversees resident assessments andcare plans
• Ensures all licensed nurses and CNAshave current credentials, complete competency testing, and maintain up-to-datein-service records
• Reviews neighborhood shift reportsdaily to ensure timely responses to significant changes in condition,incidents, transfers, restraints, injuries, falls, behavioral issues, andmedication errors
• Collaborates with physicians,consultants, and community agencies to improve services and resolve issues
• Coordinates nursing services withother departments, including Therapy; fosters employee engagement, recognition,and positive team culture
• Monitors staff compliance with OSHA,HIPAA, and infection control standards; manages the infection control programand submits reports to the QAPI Committee
• Leads the nursing department inquality improvement activities and reports compliance through rounds,interviews, and record reviews
• Assists the Administrator inpreparing for surveys, staff education, inspector interactions, corrections,and citations
• Communicates directly with residents,families, medical staff, and team members to coordinate care, encourageparticipation, and support quality of life
• Promotes customer service and handlescomplaints or concerns promptly; monitors facility incidents and reports to theAdministrator as appropriate
• Makes mandated reports to the OhioDepartment of Health in cases of suspected abuse, neglect, or misappropriation
• Oversees the Clinic and supervisesthe Medical Office Manager
• Participates in committees as needed,including QAPI and Compliance
• Maintains privacy and securitystandards; ensures corrective action is taken in the event of a privacy or securitybreach

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages 2-4 subordinate supervisors who oversee a total of approximately130–150 employees in the Nursing Department. Also, directly supervises 1–3non-supervisory employees. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, andtraining; assigning work; evaluating performance; administering rewards anddiscipline; resolving issues; and ensuring compliance with organizationalpolicies and applicable laws.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Fifth-year college or university program certificate; or 6–7 years of relevantexperience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education andexperience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports,and legal documents. Able to respond to inquiries from customers, regulators,or the public. Can write professional communications and deliver presentations to leadership and community groups.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Proficient in applying concepts such as probability, statistics, geometry,trigonometry, and various calculations involving fractions, percentages, andratios.

REASONING ABILITY

Capable of defining problems, collecting data, and drawing valid conclusions.Able to interpret technical instructions in varied formats and handle abstractand concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must hold a valid Registered Nurse license from the State of Ohio.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing duties, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear andfrequently sit. Occasionally required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb,balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or smell. Must occasionally lift and/or move upto 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, colorvision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
