Job summary

VHS Home Health Care in Virginia is seeking a Director of Nursing to provide clinical leadership, oversight, and direction for resident care on a full-time basis.

The role requires an RN license, a nursing degree (BSN preferred), and at least 3 years of clinical nursing experience in home health or related settings. Mentoring, regulatory compliance, and QA leadership are key components of this position.

Qualifications

• Current, active RN license in the state of employment.
• Nursing degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
• Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience in home health, nursing care center, or related setting.
• Experience in supervision, leadership, and staff development.
• Experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for residents, families, staff, and external agencies.
• Comprehensive knowledge of nursing practices, healthcare regulations, and long‑term care standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a staffing plan reflecting clinical needs and safe, quality resident care.
• Conduct rounds to monitor, evaluate, and enhance nursing care quality throughout the facility.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with residents, families, staff, and the interdisciplinary medical team.
• Partner with the Administrator to deliver high‑quality, person‑centered care.
• Develop, implement, manage, and evaluate departmental policies and procedures in line with regulations.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to nursing staff for growth and excellence.
• Oversee QA and performance improvement initiatives to enhance nursing services.
• Ensure compliance with laws, regs, and clinical standards governing nursing care.

• Oversee quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives to ensure continuous enhancement of nursing services.

• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and clinical standards governing nursing care facilities.

Qualifications for Director of Nursing:

• Must possess a current, active, and unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment.

• A nursing degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.

• Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience in a home health, nursing care center, or other related healthcare setting required.

• Experience in supervision, leadership, and staff development required.

• Experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices strongly preferred.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with residents, families, staff, and external agencies.

• Comprehensive knowledge of nursing practices, healthcare regulations, and standards applicable to long-term care settings.
