Job description

JOB PURPOSE

Directs and coordinates the nursing programs for NTU. Oversees day to day program operations.

This position description indicates in general the nature and levels of work, knowledge, skills, and abilities. It is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities required or assigned to this position.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develops departmental plans, policies, procedures, goals and objectives and ensures compliance to regulations.
• Develops, reviews, and revises standard nursing curricula.
• Achieves financial objectives by preparing and administering annual budget; presenting and justifying budget recommendations to appropriate personnel.
• Determines required laboratory and classroom equipment needs.
• Exercises leadership in the area of program oversight and curriculum maintenance; has a broad understanding of the intricacies of the program and its relationships to the University at large.
• Coordinates periodical program review and maintaining appropriate assessment records.
• Reviews assessment activities on a periodic basis.
• Coordinates a schedule of course offerings to meet the needs of the student; provides leadership in the advisement of students and evaluation of student performance.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.
• Maintains clinical and educational competency.
• Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES

• Hosts regular staff meetings to ensure communication among personnel regarding departmental activities.
• Supervises and manages personnel, including hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, and work allocation; addresses problems and resolutions.
• Coordinates preparation and maintenance of departmental budgets and oversight of compliance throughout the fiscal year.
• Ensures ongoing relationships with community health agencies, institutions and/or groups to keep abreast of community needs.
• Serves as liaison with regulatory and accrediting bodies.
• Responsible for the annual ongoing systematic development, implementation and evaluation of total program and student performance.
• Maintains clinical and educational operations and efficiency in collaboration with staff, faculty, and administration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

• Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) or related field.
• Five (5) years' work experience in a senior administrative position at an accredited institution of higher learning.
• Current Registered Nursing License in New Mexico or a compact state; current CPR Certification by the American Heart Association.
• Valid and clean driver's license.
• Must be able to pass background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies and no history of child abuse or neglect.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

• Doctoral Degree in Nursing or related field.
• Five (5) years' experience in a senior administrative position at an accredited institution of higher learning.
• Current Registered Nursing License in New Mexico or a compact state; current CPR certification by the American Heart Association.
• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements; knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of education for nursing professionals.
• Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technology, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of expertise.
• Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements; knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures.
• Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures; knowledge of health education theory and practice.
• Skills in operating business computers and office machines; proficiency in Windows environment and software (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Access) and presentation software.
• Organizational planning, structuring, and staff fitting; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse set of stakeholders.
• Analytical skills to identify problems, project consequences, and provide solutions; ability to interpret and implement professional recommendations.
• Ability to clearly communicate medical information to professional practitioners and/or the general public.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines; ability to make solid decisions and exercise independent judgment.
• Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to communicate effectively in Navajo and English languages.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently sits, stands, walks, bends, stops, and squats; may be required to lift up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Work is generally performed indoors.
