Job description

The Cleveland Clinic's Neurological Institute announces a search for a Director of Neuropsychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology.

This Endowed Chair leadership position in Neuropsychiatry will guide and mentor the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology in endeavors that transcend clinical and research activities with key Neurological Institutes stakeholders, including Center for Brain Health, Epilepsy Center, Multiple Sclerosis Center, Center for Comprehensive Pain Recovery, and Center for Neurological Restoration (Movement Disorders). Advanced behavioral health therapies, including neuromodulation, will fall under the purview of this position.

In January 2027, the Neurological Institute will inaugurate a 1 million square feet, state‑of‑the‑art Neurologic Institute building, in Cleveland, Ohio, which will afford a once‑in‑a‑lifetime clinical, academic, and research environment for our Department. The access to cutting edge neuroimaging, network mapping, and electrophysiology expertise within the Neurological Institute, as well as the landmark Cleveland Clinic Brain Study, are all setting the foundation for innovative interdisciplinary clinical care and discovery.

The Department of Psychiatry and Psychology supports a variety of faculty career tracks, including NIH supported clinician researchers, clinician scholars, clinician educators, and master clinicians. The Department maintains nationally recognized programs in many areas of Psychiatry and Psychology, including research on DBS, TMS, ECT, lithium, ketamine and now psychedelics. Department personnel have been highly productive in running national multi‑center trials and directing multiple PCORI‑funded projects. Niche service lines, such as the Psychiatric Treatment Resistant Program, are poised for further clinical trials and outcome studies, which dovetail nicely with neuropsychiatric initiatives.

The Department of Psychiatry and Psychology resides on the Cleveland Clinic's main campus, as well as regionally in Northeast Ohio, with more than 200 psychiatric inpatient beds spread across five regional hospitals and outpatient clinics located at 8 regional multi‑specialty outpatient centers. Currently there are 57 psychiatry and 26 psychology faculty as well as 52 Advanced Practice Provider and 22 social workers, making the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology one of the largest departments within the Neurological Institute.

The interested candidate will be expected to closely collaborate with the Neurological Institute's Behavioral Neurology and Neuropsychiatry (BNNP) fellowship based in Cleveland, Ohio and Las Vegas, Nevada as well as assist in the implementation of a robust Neuropsychiatry track and curriculum for psychiatry trainees. The Department has thriving Adult Psychiatry residency program at the Main Campus in Cleveland and in Akron, as well as fellowships in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Consultation‑Liaison Psychiatry, and Health Psychology. In addition, there is a city‑wide Addiction Psychiatry fellowship, of which the Cleveland Clinic is a core teaching site.

The candidate may additionally qualify for an open Vice Chair of Research position within the Department of Psychiatry and Psychology, meeting the criteria for research implementation, clinical trial experience, mentorship, and extramural funding.

It will be paramount that the individual possesses the skills to collaboratively promote Neuropsychiatry excellence within a dynamic system, capitalizing on strengths of the Neurological Institute. The Director will need to work closely with the Chair of the Neurological Institute, the Chair and Vice Chairs of Psychiatry and Psychology, the Vice Chair of Research and Vice Chair of Education of the Neurological Institute, and the directors of all disease‑based Centers in the Neurological Institute.

To promote growth and program development of Neuropsychiatry in Cleveland Clinic Ohio, Nevada, and Florida locations, qualified candidates will be expected to demonstrate experience and strength in the following areas:

  • Proven leadership record and clinical contributions in the field of Neuropsychiatry.
  • A strong history of mentoring and promoting the professional growth of faculty.
  • Track record of positive interpersonal engagement across multiple disciplines.
  • Clinical operational experience and continuous improvement acumen.
  • Ability to incorporate research findings into clinical practice
  • Record of success identifying philanthropic opportunities and cultivating key relationships to grow Neuropsychiatry endeavors

For physician candidates, Adult Psychiatrists with BNNP board certification, as well as dual trained Psychiatry and Neurology clinicians, are highly desired candidates to apply. We also welcome interest from PhD candidates with an accomplished record of clinical care, teaching, and research. The position includes appointment at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University.
