About Us

Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM) is the state’s leading provider of sexual and reproductive health care, nationally recognized for education and research. Our mission: ensure everyone in Massachusetts has access to compassionate, judgment-free care and education. We operate four health centers and offer telehealth statewide as part of a network of 600 Planned Parenthood affiliates nationwide.

Join Us in Advancing Reproductive Freedom

At Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM) and Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts (PPAF), we believe everyone deserves access to high-quality health care, trusted information, and the freedom to make decisions about their own bodies and futures.

We're seeking a passionate, strategic, and relationship-centered Director of Major Gifts to help fuel this work through philanthropy. This is an exciting opportunity for an accomplished fundraising leader to build meaningful partnerships with donors, lead a growing major gifts team, and play a critical role in advancing reproductive health, rights, and advocacy across Massachusetts.

About the Role

As a key member of the Development leadership team, the Director of Major Gifts will lead the strategy, growth, and performance of our major gifts program for both PPLM (501(c)(3)) and PPAF (501(c)(4)). Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this individual will cultivate transformational relationships with donors and prospects, manage a portfolio of high-capacity supporters, and oversee a team of Major Gift Officers dedicated to growing philanthropic investment in our mission.

The ideal candidate is an experienced frontline fundraiser and people leader who thrives on building authentic relationships, developing talent, and helping donors create meaningful impact through their giving.

Your Day to Day:

Lead and Inspire a High-Performing Team
  • Supervise, coach, and support a team of Major Gift Officers.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and donor-centered team culture grounded in accountability and continuous learning.
  • Partner with team members to develop effective donor engagement, stewardship, and solicitation strategies.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and professional development initiatives.
  • Collaborate with prospect research and development operations staff to strengthen portfolio management and donor pipeline development.
Build Meaningful Donor Partnerships
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 90-95 major donors and prospects.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors capable of making gifts of $10,000 or more, with a focus on securing leadership-level gifts of $25,000+.
  • Partner with executive leadership and volunteer leaders to create impactful donor engagement opportunities.
  • Support the Chief Development Officer in advancing relationships with key donors and prospects.
  • Help donors connect their values and philanthropic goals with the mission and strategic priorities of PPLM and PPAF.
Shape Fundraising Strategy
  • Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive major gifts strategy that supports organizational fundraising goals.
  • Collaborate across Development and organizational leadership to identify opportunities for donor investment and engagement.
  • Partner with Development Operations to ensure accurate donor tracking, moves management, reporting, and forecasting.
  • Represent PPLM and PPAF in fundraising initiatives, donor events, and relevant partnership opportunities.
  • Stay informed about fundraising trends and best practices and contribute ideas that strengthen organizational fundraising success.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Attend occasional evening and weekend events, meetings, and donor activities.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Experience using CRM systems, donor databases, or similar relationship management tools.
