Job summary

Hamilton College invites a dynamic rabbi to serve as the Director of the Center for Jewish Life and Lecturer in Jewish Studies. You will lead and grow a pluralistic campus Jewish life, teach courses, and collaborate with Jewish and multi-faith communities on campus.

The role emphasizes spiritual care, religious leadership, program development, and teaching, with responsibilities spanning worship, instruction, advising, and public representation within a holistic spiritual life program.

Qualifications

• Rabbinic ordination or pathway to ordination by July 1, 2027.
• Ordination or professional religious training from an accredited institution.
• Experience teaching at the college level is preferred.
• Ability to teach introductory Judaism and other courses based on interests such as Jewish texts, ethics/justice, liturgy, or music.
• Experience in religious leadership with ritual and program delivery preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience considered.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all on-campus Jewish services, activities and holidays including weekly Shabbat and High Holy Days.
• Deliver academic courses in the Jewish Studies Program and offer co-curricular Jewish learning.
• Advise students, staff and faculty, fostering Jewish life on campus and partnerships with Jewish Studies, Hamilton Hillel and Chabad groups.
• Maintain a visible public presence through ceremonies, vigils, committees, training and speaking engagements.
• Collaborate on Multifaith and Spiritual Wellness Initiatives with the Spiritual Life team.
• Provide compassionate spiritual care and be a confidential resource for the campus community.
• Oversee the Azel Backus House and kosher kitchen as part of program space management.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
