Job description

Director of Investments

San Antonio, TX | Full-Time | On-Site

About Avid Wealth Partners

Avid Wealth Partners is an independent wealth management firm serving successful entrepreneurs, business owners, physicians and their families.

We advise clients through a comprehensive, highly integrated approach that brings together investment management, tax strategy, estate planning, business planning, risk management and advanced planning.

For many of our clients, the work looks more like a family office than traditional wealth management.

Our investment platform is an important part of that broader strategy. We manage complex and often highly taxable portfolios using active and passive strategies, direct indexing, SMAs, alternatives, private investments, fixed income and customized portfolio solutions.

Today, our CEO & CIO leads the investment function. This role will work directly alongside him—adding depth and capacity across research, strategy, portfolio management and communication while continuing to evolve the platform.

The Role

The Director of Investments will take significant ownership within Avid's investment function while working closely with our advisory and planning teams.

A major part of this role is the ability to absorb a high volume of research and information from many different sources, determine what actually matters, develop a point of view and turn it into clear strategic recommendations.

We are not looking for someone who simply gathers research or reports what others are saying.

We need someone who can answer:What matters? What do you think? What should we do about it?

Then communicate that thinking at three different levels:

  • CIO: Highly technical, concise and decision-ready.
  • Advisors: Translate the strategy, reasoning and portfolio implications so advisors can confidently apply it within the client's broader plan.
  • Clients: Make sophisticated investment concepts simple and relevant through meetings, written communication, presentations and video.
What You'll Own
  • Research & Strategy — Synthesize market research, manager insights, economic data, portfolio analytics and other investment inputs into actionable recommendations.
  • Portfolio Management — Monitor asset allocation, risk, exposures and performance across models and client portfolios.
  • Manager & Investment Due Diligence — Evaluate funds, ETFs, SMAs, alternatives, private investments, managers and new investment opportunities.
  • Integrated Strategy — Work with advisors and planning teams to understand how investment decisions interact with tax, estate, business, risk and other planning strategies.
  • Investment Communication — Develop clear market and portfolio communication for the CIO, advisors and clients.
  • Implementation — Support portfolio changes, rebalancing, tax-loss harvesting and limited trading activity as needed.
  • Investment Process — Help strengthen and scale our research, monitoring, risk controls, technology and investment processes.
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of directly relevant experience in portfolio management, investment research or discretionary investment management.
  • Experience within an RIA, institutional asset manager, investment manager or similarly sophisticated investment environment strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience researching investments and managers and making portfolio recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of portfolio construction, asset allocation, capital markets and portfolio risk.
  • Experience evaluating alternative or private investment opportunities is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of portfolio implementation, rebalancing and tax-aware investment management.
  • Ability to think beyond the portfolio and understand investments within a client's broader planning strategy.
  • Exceptional ability to synthesize complex information and communicate it clearly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to move from highly technical investment discussion to simple client communication.
  • CFA strongly preferred. MBA/MFin, CMT, CAIA or other advanced investment credentials will also be considered alongside directly relevant experience.
This Role Is Not

This is not a financial advisor or production role, a wholesaler position, a pure research seat or a trading-heavy position.

We are looking for someone who can connect research, investment judgment, portfolio management and communication, and understand how investments fit within a much broader client strategy.

Why Avid

You'll work directly with our CEO & CIO, have a meaningful voice in investment decisions and take real ownership within an established investment platform.

You'll also work inside a firm where investment decisions are not made in isolation. We layer investment, tax, estate, business and risk strategies together to solve more complex client problems.

We move quickly, challenge assumptions and expect people to bring ideas, not simply execute what has always been done.

  • Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance; group life and LTD coverage; 401(k); paid time off and holidays; and professional development support.

Final candidates will be subject to employment and education verification and background screening.

Avid Wealth Partners is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of directly relevant experience in portfolio management, investment research or discretionary investment management.

  • Strong understanding of portfolio construction, asset allocation, capital markets and portfolio risk.
