Job summary

PSG Global Solutions is seeking a Director of Insurance Investment Accounting for a fast-growing insurer in Durham, NC. This hybrid, hands-on leadership role oversees the accounting for a complex investment portfolio and a team of 7 professionals.

You will own the monthly and quarterly close, review GAAP and statutory reporting, and drive process improvement and automation with cross-functional partners including Investments, Treasury and Financial Reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 10+ years of accounting/reporting experience in insurance or Big Four.
• Strong knowledge of investment accounting and financial close processes.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly and quarterly investment accounting close.
• Review US GAAP and statutory/NAIC reporting.
• Oversee investment footnotes, schedules, and regulatory reporting.
• Coordinate with Investments, Treasury, and external providers.
• Coach and develop a 7-person investment accounting team.
• Drive process improvement, automation, and finance transformation.

Job description

We are seeking a Director of Insurance Investment Accounting for a fast-growing insurance company in Durham, NC. This is a hybrid, hands-on leadership role overseeing the accounting and reporting of a complex investment portfolio and managing a team of 7 investment accounting professionals.

Responsibilities

• Own/oversees the monthly and quarterly investment accounting close.
• Reviews U.S. GAAP and statutory/NAIC reporting.
• Oversees investment footnotes, schedules, and regulatory reporting.
• Ensures accurate investment accounting and GL reconciliation.
• Partners with Investments, Treasury, Financial Reporting, and external service providers.
• Supports accounting treatment of new investment transactions.
• Leads process improvement, automation, and finance transformation.
• Coaches, develops, and manages the investment accounting team.

NOTE: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents (Green Card holders) to be considered for this position.

Work Setup/Schedule: Hybrid — 3 days onsite in Durham, NC 27713 (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and one additional day of your choice) and 2 days remote.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• 10+ years of accounting/reporting experience within insurance or a top-tier audit firm.
• Insurance statutory reporting and/or investment reporting experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of investment accounting, including fixed income, derivatives, alternatives, investment footnotes, and Yellow/Blue Books.
• Manager-level experience with direct reports; experience leading teams of 7+ preferred.
• Strong Excel and technology skills.
• Experience with general ledger, reporting schedules, and financial close processes.
• Proven experience with finance transformation, automation, and improving the close process.
