Abdo, a growing accounting and advisory firm, is seeking a Director of Finance / Controller to join the firm’s leadership team and to lead the firm's finance function with discipline and insight in support of the firm's goals. Key responsibilities include:

Financial Operations & Process Leadership

• Actively participate in firm strategic planning sessions, providing financial insight that supports new business strategies, growth, and sustainability.
• Own the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of the firm’s accounting close, financial reporting, and forecasting processes.
• Lead ongoing process improvement efforts across the accounting and finance function, streamlining workflows and eliminating inefficiencies.
• Champion the adoption of technology and automation tools to increase accuracy, efficiency, and capacity within the finance team.
• Lead the budgeting process and provide recommendations for enhancing financial performance and identifying opportunities for improvement.

Financial Reporting & Analysis

• Ensure timely, accurate financial reporting for leadership and partners.
• Develop, monitor, and analyze meaningful Scorecard measurables that align with the firm’s strategic direction.
• Communicate financial performance, trends, and forecasts, providing insights that support both short- and long-term decision-making.
• Oversee expense tracking and reporting to ensure accuracy and accountability.
• Actively utilize firm-approved technology and AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency and accuracy, while exercising appropriate professional judgment

Cash Flow and Capacity Management

• Monitor cash flow to maintain liquidity and financial stability.
• Evaluate capital requirements and oversee cash management practices, coordinating with banking partners as directed by firm leadership.
• Assess firm capacity for growth by reviewing financial performance and budget alignment across departments.

Risk Management and Compliance

• Establish effective internal controls and appropriate segregation of duties, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local financial and tax regulations.
• Oversee tax planning and compliance, including tax return preparation and filing, collaborating with advisors when necessary.
• Oversee firm insurance coverage to minimize risk and legal exposure.

Team Leadership and Development

• Lead and develop the accounting and finance team, establishing clear roles and accountability across the function
• Provide technical training and mentorship to build bench strength within the team
• Support firm leadership and partners by providing financial insight for strategic planning (V/TO) and new business initiatives

Ideal Director of Finance / Controller candidate has:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or applicable field; CPA highly desirable
• 10+ years in progressively responsible financial leadership roles, preferably in public accounting, professional services, or a multi-divisional, production environment experience
• 10+ years of demonstrated leadership/management experience; leadership experience in the Entrepreneurial Operation System (EOS) preferred
• Proven success leading finance technology, automation, and process improvement initiatives
• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization, including management of remote staff
• High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation
• PC proficiency is essential (Windows environment), and strong working knowledge of Excel is necessary
• Sage Intacct experience is a plus

Additional Information:

At Abdo, we are committed to providing fair, transparent, and competitive compensation that reflects the unique skills and experiences of each candidate. The estimated base pay range for this role is $140,000 - $185,000. Offers are typically made below the maximum to allow room for future compensation increases in the role. The compensation offer will be based on factors such as experience, education, licensure, certifications, skills, and business needs.

All employees have the opportunity to earn discretionary bonuses based on demonstration of extraordinary performance, special projects of significant importance, or other major accomplishments. Directors are also eligible for a management bonus program which is awarded based on the consideration of individual contributions, team accomplishments, and firm growth.
