Avantech is built on a culture of collaboration, growth, and shared success. We value each team member’s unique knowledge, expertise, and perspective—and we are as dedicated to supporting one another as we are to serving our clients. Avantech is a destination for top talent looking to make meaningful impact and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our fast-growing firm.

The Position

Avantech is seeking an experienced and driven Finance Director to strengthen and scale our financial operations. This newly created role will work closely with firm leadership to manage day-to-day accounting functions, develop and monitor key performance metrics, and build strategic financial models to guide decision-making. We’re looking for someone who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment, solves challenges proactively, and brings execution excellence to the role. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with technical accounting and finance skills and a strategic mindset to shape the financial future of a dynamic law firm.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations of the firm, including general ledger, billing, disbursements, and financial reporting.
  • Lead the development of the firm’s annual operating budget and monitor performance against budget, providing regular variance analysis to leadership.
  • Collaborate with attorneys to develop client matter budgets, track actuals, and improve pricing strategies.
  • Manage cash flow, including forecasting, liquidity planning, and ensuring timely collection of receivables.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with external tax advisors and financial institutions; ensure compliance with regulatory and tax obligations.
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting to support the strategic blueprint, hiring & compensation planning, commercial models, and long-term firm growth initiatives.
  • Develop internal controls, accounting policies, and best practices in accordance with legal industry standards.
  • Oversee vendor contracts, insurance, and other firmwide financial obligations, ensuring favorable terms and cost efficiency.
  • Drive automation and process improvements within the finance function using AI, legal practice management software, and accounting systems.
  • Partner with firm leadership to evaluate and implement financial systems and technologies to support scaling and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • 6–10 years of experience in accounting and finance roles, including progression into financial analysis or planning responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and experience managing transactional accounting (AP/AR, invoicing, reconciliations).
  • Advanced proficiency and demonstrated ability to automate processes, learn new systems, manage large datasets, extract data from financial systems into Excel, and create custom reports for analysis and decision-making.
  • Experience developing financial models, forecasts, and budgets—ideally in a professional services setting.
  • Independent, organized, and results-oriented, with an ability to prioritize and manage competing deadlines.
  • Confident and effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail and comfort solving ambiguous, practical business problems.

Compensation

Avantech’s compensation structure is competitive with leading law firms and professional service organizations. We recognize that outstanding talent drives our success, and our compensation model is designed to reward exceptional performance and support long-term growth.

  • Base Salary: Range of $135,000 – $165,000 annual pay commensurate with experience with flexibility to align with the right candidate’s capabilities.
  • Bonus Structure: Eligible for annual discretionary bonus based on individual and firm performance.
  • Retirement: 401(k) with firm matching.
  • Insurance: Comprehensive health, dental, vision, and life insurance coverage.
  • Additional Benefits: Home office reimbursement, flexible PTO, remote work environment with limited travel, professional development opportunities and resources.
