KEY RESPONSIBLITIES & CORE REQUIREMENTS
Executive Committee & Strategic Partnership
  • Serve as a strategic business partner to the General Manager, Executive Committee, department leaders, ownership, and corporate leadership.
  • Provide timely, accurate, and actionable financial information, analysis, and recommendations to support business decisions.
  • Conduct special financial analyses as requested by the General Manager or Corporate Office, and actively participate in Executive Committee and staff meetings.
  • Develop practical financial solutions based on cost-benefit analysis, operational impact, and business objectives, and provide accurate policy interpretation.
  • Assist other managers in interpreting financial statements, distributions, and other financial data.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, forecasts, budgets, and other financial reports, ensuring accurate and timely completion of accounting entries.
  • Identify financial risks, trends, opportunities, and areas of concern, and communicate findings to hotel and corporate leadership.
  • Monitor hotel sales, expenses, labor costs, and profitability throughout each accounting period, and keep leadership informed of current and potential financial issues.
  • Complete financial reports and requests from corporate leadership accurately and within established deadlines, including reporting outside standard SOP requirements when needed.
Internal Controls & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies, brand standards, Standard Operating Procedures, accounting principles, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintain effective internal controls, cash-control procedures, audit processes, and financial reporting systems; review security over hotel assets and oversee inventory and financial audits.
  • Maintain knowledge of and compliance with applicable city, county, and state tax laws, including sales tax, innkeeper, liquor, and labor regulations.
  • Review contracts, leases, agreements, covenants, and financial restrictions applicable to the property, and identify and correct deficiencies in financial controls.
Budgeting & Capital Expenditures
  • Manage the annual budgeting and forecasting process, including preparation, coordination, presentation, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Coordinate all aspects of the capital expenditure budget in accordance with company and property procedures, and complete return-on-investment (ROI) analyses as appropriate.
  • Coordinate the property's labor management system and related payroll financial processes.
Accounts Receivable & Credit Management
  • Oversee accounts receivable activities, credit management, collections, and bad-debt controls, and maintain standards for aging and average collection periods.
  • Establish and audit compliance with the property's local credit policy, and approve major accounts for credit in accordance with local and company guidelines.
  • Conduct credit and write-off meetings as requested and prepare accurate, timely credit-loss reporting.
  • Review major group, banquet, and event accounts prior to arrival to ensure appropriate credit approval and payment arrangements.
Balance Sheet & Inventory Control
  • Reconcile asset and liability accounts on a timely basis, ensuring appropriate accruals, prepaid expenses, and other account balances.
  • Calculate and monitor inventory turnover ratios and days-available for major asset categories, including food, beverage, linen, guest supplies, and uniforms.
  • Partner with department leaders to maintain inventory balances according to established, realistic par levels, and comply with company procedures on payment terms and vendor obligations.
Department Leadership
  • Recruit, train, coach, develop, and evaluate finance department team members to promote accountability, accuracy, and professional growth.
  • Maintain and update finance department procedures, job descriptions, and operating standards, and establish effective cross-training programs.
  • Collaborate with department leaders to improve financial performance, operational efficiency, and profitability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by hotel management.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Hotel Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience as a Director of Finance within the hotel or hospitality industry.
  • Strong understanding of hotel finance, accounting practices, budgeting, forecasting, accounts receivable, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience managing financial operations within a full-service hotel, resort, or conference property, with Marriott-branded property experience preferred.
  • Preferred experience with M3, Lightspeed (Marriott PMS), Power of M, REECO, Toast, and Savie.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy, and the ability to translate financial data into practical business recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of applicable city, county, and state financial and tax regulations.
  • Assertive, confident, and professional leadership style with the ability to influence and collaborate across departments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt style to effectively work with executives, ownership, corporate leadership, managers, employees, and external partners.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict reporting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and hotel financial/accounting systems.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours when required by hotel operations, financial deadlines, or business needs.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

In addition to meeting the key responsibilities and core requirements of the position, candidate must be able to maintain:

  • Ability to report to and work at the property in Miami, Florida, as required to perform the essential functions of the position. Ability to work additional or extended hours when reasonably required to meet critical financial deadlines, month-end and year-end closing requirements, audits, budgets, forecasts, payroll deadlines, or significant operational needs.
  • Ability to perform effectively and maintain accuracy, sound judgment, responsiveness, and appropriate prioritization in a fast-paced, high-volume hotel environment.
  • Ability to effectively use the computer systems, accounting systems, spreadsheets, email, mobile devices, and other technology required to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Ability to manage, prioritize, and timely complete multiple concurrent responsibilities, assignments, and deadlines.
  • Ability to respond appropriately and timely to financial, employee, and operational matters requiring the Director of Finance's attention.
  • Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance sufficient to meet the financial, supervisory, operational, and reporting responsibilities of the position.
