Job summary

Sacred Heart Parish in Lexington, MA seeks a part-time Director of Evangelization and Communication to support the pastor in forming intentional disciples and to oversee internal and external communications for the parish across all platforms.

Responsibilities

• Assist pastor in creating and implementing an overall plan to form intentional disciples of Jesus Christ through an integrated program for adults, young adults, and families.
• Coordinate community events for the parish with the Social Committee.
• Collaborate with staff and volunteers responsible for evangelization and discipleship efforts.
• Support existing ministries in adult faith, family, stewardship, hospitality, OCIA, Bible studies, small groups, and outreach to inactive parishioners and non-Catholics.
• Form and maintain an evangelization/discipleship team to aid in parish events and ministries.
• Be present at weekend Masses and significant parish events to know and be known by parishioners.
• Foster belonging and connectedness among adults; create opportunities for fellowship and unity.
• Assess the effectiveness of evangelization efforts and campaigns.
• Collaborate with pastor and staff on weekly bulletin; develop strategies for social media, email, and events.
• Manage website, domain, and email administration; oversee church platforms (blog, social media, podcast).
• Develop externally-focused marketing and communications campaigns to support evangelization and drive attendance and membership.
• Research grants aligned with the mission and work with staff to apply for them to support parish fundraising.

Director of Evangelization and Communication (PT), Sacred Heart Parish, Lexington, MA

The parish Director of Evangelization and Communication exists to assist the pastor in the missionary transformation of Sacred Heart Parish, Lexington. This position is responsible for (1) collaborating with the pastor to create and implement the plan of evangelization and discipleship as well as executing the necessary missionary discipleship formation of parishioners as part of that plan and (2) developing, managing, and maintaining internal and external communications on all relevant new and traditional platforms to support the mission of the parish. The candidate should be a person of prayer with excellent communication skills who has an understanding and love of Jesus and the Catholic Church. The right candidate should be able to collaborate well with staff, ministry leaders, and parish volunteers. In addition, those applying should be relational and have the gift of connecting with people from all walks of life from devout Catholics, lukewarm Catholics, non-Catholics, those suffering, and those on the margins. The right person for this position has a willingness and desire to invest in the lives of those God puts in their path and understands the art of accompaniment. This is an on-site position at the parish office in Lexington.

Job Responsibilities

• Assist pastor in creating and implementing an overall plan to form intentional disciples of Jesus Christ through an integrated program of programming for adults, young adults, and families.
• Together with the Social Committee, create, facilitate, and coordinate community events for the parish.
• Collaborate with staff and volunteers responsible for assisting evangelization and discipleship efforts.
• Collaborate with and support existing ministries in the areas of adult faith, parent and family, stewardship, hospitality, OCIA, Bible studies, small faith sharing groups, and outreach efforts to inactive parishioners, non-Catholics, and marginalized.
• Form and maintain an evangelization/discipleship team to aid in the execution of parish events and ministries.
• Be present frequently at weekend Masses and significant parish events to know and be known by parishioners.
• Foster a sense of belonging and connectedness among adults in the parish.
• Create opportunities for fellowship and community building among adult parishioners, promoting a sense of unity and belonging within the parish.
• Frequently assess effectiveness of evangelization movement within the parish.
• Collaborate with the pastor and parish staff on the production of the weekly bulletin.
• Develop and implement a strategy for all social media channels, email communication, event registration, etc.
• Manage website, domain and email administration.
• Oversee all church platforms including blog, social media, podcast, etc.
• Develop externally-focused marketing and communications campaigns to support evangelization efforts and drive attendance and membership.
• Research available grants consistent with our mission; work with other staff members to apply and win grants to supplement parish fundraising.
• Exhibit discretion when handling confidential matters.

Administrative Duties

• Oversee evangelization budget working with designated staff in keeping with financial guidelines.
• Plan annual calendar of evangelization/discipleship encounters/events.
• Attend staff meetings and other staff activities.
• Follow Archdiocesan policies regarding staff and volunteer interaction with children and vulnerable adults.

• Background in or appreciation of missionary discipleship, adult education, spirituality, and formation.
• Excellent computer, strong organizational and time management skills.
• Proficiency in computer programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and traditional and innovative communication technology; willing to learn new software and programs as needed
• Proficiency with social and digital media, with a willingness and capacity to learn new platforms, medium, and software as needed

Education, Training, and/or Experience

• Degree in Catholic Studies, Theology, Philosophy, or related field or experience in parish evangelization is preferred.
• Experience with marketing, communication, media studies or other similar backgrounds or equivalent proven work experience.
• Ability to lead prayer, facilitate group discussions, and engage with people of all ages and backgrounds.
