Job summary

Stratus is seeking a Director of Engineering Technology to lead strategy, implementation, and continuous improvement of engineering technologies across a multidisciplinary organization. This role partners with engineering leaders, IT, and executives to align technology initiatives with business goals and enhance project delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • 10+ years of engineering or architectural design experience with increasing technology leadership responsibility.
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary A/E environment serving multiple markets (e.g., infrastructure, commercial, industrial, healthcare).
  • Proven track record of leading technology initiatives and digital transformation programs.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a firm-wide engineering technology strategy.
  • Lead digital transformation with advanced design tech, automation, and data-driven workflows.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies (BIM, digital twins, AI design) and recommend adoption where appropriate.
  • Advise executive leadership on engineering technology trends and investments.
  • Oversee selection and governance of CAD, BIM, and analysis tools.
  • Standardize practices across disciplines while supporting specialized needs.
  • Manage software licensing and vendor relationships to optimize ROI.
  • Lead development of design standards and templates.
  • Foster cross-discipline collaboration across civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and environmental.
  • Promote interoperable workflows between architectural and engineering teams.
  • Support integrated project delivery with shared models and data environments.
  • Drive continuous improvement of design processes for productivity and quality.
  • Advance automation via scripting, parametric design, and workflow optimization.
  • Champion hackathons and pilots to test new tools.
  • Measure performance of technology adoption and impact.
  • Develop digital delivery frameworks, BIM execution plans, and model-based deliverables.
  • Integrate engineering data with enterprise systems (PM, asset management).
  • Promote data analytics and dashboards for better decision-making.
  • Lead and develop a team of design technology specialists.
  • Mentor and train staff to boost digital competency.
  • Foster collaboration, learning, and innovation.
  • Partner with HR on workforce planning and skills development.
  • Collaborate with IT on infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud solutions.
  • Work with project managers to ensure tech supports delivery.
  • Engage with clients to support digital delivery expectations.

The Role

The Director of Engineering Technology is responsible for leading the strategy, implementation, and continuous improvement of engineering technologies across a multidisciplinary architectural and engineering organization. This role ensures that digital tools, platforms, workflows, and data systems support high-quality design delivery, operational efficiency, and innovation across multiple engineering disciplines and market sectors.

The Director partners closely with engineering leaders, design teams, IT, and executive leadership to align technology initiatives with business objectives, enhance project delivery, and maintain a competitive advantage.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a firm-wide engineering technology strategy aligned with business goals and growth initiatives
  • Lead digital transformation efforts, including adoption of advanced design technologies, automation, and data-driven workflows
  • Evaluate emerging technologies (e.g., BIM, digital twins, AI-assisted design, cloud collaboration platforms) and recommend adoption where appropriate
  • Serve as a thought leader and advisor to executive leadership on engineering technology trends and investments
  • Oversee the selection, implementation, and governance of engineering design tools and platforms (e.g., CAD, BIM, analysis software)
  • Ensure standardization across disciplines where appropriate while supporting specialized technical needs
  • Manage software licensing, vendor relationships, and tool performance to optimize ROI
  • Lead development and maintenance of design standards, templates, and best practices
Cross-Disciplinary Integration
  • Facilitate collaboration and consistency across multiple engineering disciplines (e.g., civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, environmental)
  • Promote interoperable workflows between architectural and engineering teams
  • Support integrated project delivery methods leveraging shared models and data environments
Innovation & Process Improvement
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, quality, and efficiency of design processes

Data Management & Digital Delivery

Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering , Architecture, or related field ( Master’s degree preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering or architectural design, with increasing responsibility in technology leadership
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary A/E environment serving multiple markets (e.g., infrastructure, commercial, industrial, healthcare)
  • Proven track record of leading technology initiatives and digital transformation programs
Technical Expertise
  • Deep knowledge of engineering design platforms (e.g., Autodesk suite, Bentley systems, analysis tools)
  • Experience with BIM processes, standards, and collaboration platforms
  • Familiarity with automation tools (e.g., Dynamo, Python, scripting environments) and data integration
  • Understanding of cloud-based collaboration and common data environments (CDEs)
