Job summary

Hover is seeking a senior mobile engineering leader to drive the camera and sensor work, guided scanning, and cloud upload paths that power our property capture products. You will shepherd the mobile capture experience across iOS, Android, and React Native while balancing near-term delivery with long-term architecture and developer velocity.

Every Hover model starts with someone standing at a property, phone in hand, often in bad weather and with one shot to get it right. You will lead the engineering organization behind that moment — the camera and sensor work, the guided scanning experience, the damage documentation, and the upload path that carries it all to the cloud. This is a role for an engineering leader who cares as much about whether a person understands what we are asking them to do as about how the capture pipeline is architected. You will partner with Product and Design from the first conversation rather than the handoff, and you will help decide what our mobile capture platform becomes as Hover grows across construction and insurance.

You will contribute by

You will lead a team of engineers and engineering managers who own Hover's mobile capture experience across iOS, Android, and React Native. You will set technical direction for mobile product development, balancing near-term delivery against long-term investment in architecture, performance, and developer velocity. You will shape the boundary between shared capture infrastructure, reusable components, and individual product experiences as our workflows multiply. You will treat reliability as a product feature — building the observability to understand what is actually happening on devices in the field, and establishing the testing, release, and quality practices that let teams ship quickly with confidence. And as a senior member of the Engineering leadership team, you will help decide where we invest and how our technology evolves.

Specifically, you will own:

• Mobile application development across iOS, Android, and React Native
• Camera-based and sensor-driven capture, 3D scanning, and measurement workflows
• Property inspection, damage documentation, and photo organization and localization
• Mobile performance, stability, thermal and battery behavior, and offline reliability
• Release quality, observability, testing, and operational health
• Mobile architecture, developer infrastructure, and reusable capture SDKs

Your background includes

• Leading mobile engineering organizations, including managing engineering managers or multiple teams
• A strong technical foundation in mobile engineering — enough depth to evaluate architecture, challenge technical decisions, and coach senior engineers
• Experience operating mobile applications at meaningful scale, with working knowledge of mobile architecture, performance, networking, concurrency, storage, instrumentation, testing, and release engineering
• Genuine interest in interaction design and user experience, and a track record of partnering with Product and Design as a peer rather than as a downstream execution function
• A track record of improving reliability and engineering quality in complex or mature systems
• Experience hiring, developing, and retaining engineering leaders and senior technical talent, including setting and holding a high performance bar
• Clear communication, and the ability to create alignment across teams working on interconnected systems

• Computer vision or ML-enabled mobile products, or spatial computing (ARKit, ARCore, LiDAR, RoomPlan)
• 3D reconstruction, photogrammetry, or camera and video processing pipelines
• Applications built for technicians, inspectors, or other field users
• Insurance, construction, property technology, or inspection workflows
• Large-file upload systems, offline-first applications, or mobile SDK development

Hybrid roles at Hover

Hover has Hubs in San Francisco and New York City, where we expect that all employees living within a 50-mile radius of our offices will come into their local Hover office at least three times a week to build rapport and foster organic connection. At this time, Hover is not considering fully remote roles.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $260,000 - $350,000 annually. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all applicable US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
