Job summary

Fraser Dove International, in partnership with an established pharmaceutical manufacturing organisation in Virginia, seeks an experienced Director of Engineering to lead engineering, maintenance, facilities, capital projects, reliability and continuous improvement across the site.

You will develop and execute a strategy to improve manufacturing reliability, safety, quality, efficiency and cost, while building a high-performing team.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of engineering experience in regulated pharma/manufacturing.
• 5+ years of progressive engineering leadership.
• Proven experience leading capital projects and technology transfers.
• Strong governance, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Experience with Lean, Six Sigma or Operational Excellence.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or related).

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the site engineering strategy aligned with production and growth.
• Lead engineering, maintenance and facilities teams including recruitment and development.
• Plan, budget, and deliver capital projects and process improvements.
• Support technology transfers and scale-up activities with Operations and MS&T.
• Establish reliability and asset management programs to boost uptime.
• Ensure compliance with cGMP, FDA, OSHA, EPA and other regs.

Our client is seeking an experienced engineering leader to lead engineering, maintenance, facilities, capital projects, reliability and continuous improvement across the manufacturing site.

Your objectives:

As the Director, Engineering, you will be measured against the following objectives:

• Develop and execute an engineering strategy that improves manufacturing reliability, safety, quality, efficiency and cost performance against agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
• Deliver capital projects, facility improvements and technology transfer requirements safely, on schedule, within budget and in line with regulatory requirements.
• Build a high-performing engineering, maintenance and facilities organisation while improving equipment uptime, asset performance and manufacturing capability.

What you will do:

As the Director, Engineering, your duties and responsibilities will include:

· Develop and execute the site engineering strategy in line with manufacturing, operational and growth objectives.

· Lead, coach and develop engineering, maintenance and facilities teams while building capability through recruitment, succession planning and employee development.

· Lead the planning, budgeting, execution and commissioning of capital projects, facility expansions and process improvements, including design reviews, feasibility studies and risk assessments.

· Partner with Operations and Manufacturing Science and Technology (MS&T) to support technology transfers, scale-up activities, new product introduction and manufacturing process improvements.

· Develop reliability and asset management strategies, including preventive and predictive maintenance programmes, to increase equipment uptime and lifecycle performance.

· Support the implementation and optimisation of automation systems, process controls, data systems and digital manufacturing solutions while evaluating emerging technologies.

· Ensure engineering activities comply with Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other applicable regulatory requirements, while managing engineering operating and capital budgets.

What you will bring:

These are the skills and experience you will need to succeed as the Director, Engineering:

· 10+ years of engineering experience within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical manufacturing or another regulated manufacturing environment.

· 5+ years of progressive leadership experience managing engineering teams and complex projects.

· Demonstrated experience leading capital projects, manufacturing engineering initiatives, technology transfers and process improvements.

· Strong leadership, stakeholder management, problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced organisation.

· Experience with continuous improvement methods such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma or Operational Excellence frameworks.

· Bachelor's degree in Engineering, including Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
