Job summary

Colonial Staffing Group Inc. is seeking a hands-on Engineering Director to lead Technical Engineering and SMT Programming within a high-mix PCB/PCBA EMS environment.

This role is not desk-based; you will work on the manufacturing floor guiding programming, production release and process improvements. You will manage SMT programming teams, validate CAD/Gerber data and BOMs, support NPI and launches, and partner with Operations, Quality and Planning to eliminate constraints while driving

Qualifications

• BA/BS in engineering or related technical discipline.
• Engineering leadership within an EMS/PCB/PCBA contract manufacturing is required.
• High-mix SMT production and complex PCB/PCBA assembly experience.
• SMT equipment programming and related processes.
• Strong CAD/Gerber data and manufacturing documentation knowledge.
• Experience with automated inspection technologies including SPI/AOI/X-Ray.
• Experience supporting NPI and production changes on the manufacturing floor.

Responsibilities

• Leads Technical Engineering and SMT Programming on the manufacturing floor.
• Oversees SMT programming, libraries, validation and production release.
• Supports high-mix SMT production and complex PCB/PCBA assembly.
• Manages programming for automated SMT equipment (Fuji NXT III).
• Reviews CAD/Gerber data, BOMs, drawings and customer docs.
• Drives engineering reviews from data receipt to release to production.
• Supports NPI, prototypes and production launches.
• Collaborates with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Production and Planning to remove constraints.
• Improves SMT programming accuracy, setup, placement and throughput.
• Oversees inline inspection processes (SPI/AOI/X-Ray).
• Maintains documentation, routing, configuration control and changes.
• Mentors technical staff and develops standardized processes.

Job description

My client, an established electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider, is seeking a hands-on Engineering Director to lead Technical Engineering and SMT Programming within a high-mix PCB/PCBA manufacturing environment.

This is not a desk-based engineering leadership position. The Engineering Director works closely with the manufacturing floor and leads the technical processes that take complex PCBAs from customer data and documentation through programming, production release and manufacturing.

Responsibilities:

• Leads Technical Engineering and SMT Programming teams, establishing priorities, accountability, workflow and cross-training
• Oversees SMT programming, component/package libraries, program validation and production release
• Supports high-mix SMT production and complex PCB/PCBA assembly
• Oversees programming and technical support for automated SMT equipment, including Fuji NXT III platforms
• Reviews and validates CAD, Gerber, pick-and-place/centroid data, BOMs, drawings and customer manufacturing documentation
• Drives technical reviews from receipt of customer data through manufacturing release
• Supports NPI, prototypes, first builds and production launches
• Partners directly with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Production and Planning to eliminate technical and production constraints
• Improves SMT programming accuracy, setup time, placement performance, throughput and equipment utilization
• Supports in-line SPI/AOI, X-Ray and other inspection processes used throughout PCB/PCBA manufacturing
• Maintains manufacturing documentation, routings, configuration control and engineering changes
• Troubleshoots placement defects, component orientation issues, package/library errors and SMT programming issues
• Develops technical personnel through mentoring, training, cross-training and standardized processes

Qualifications:

• BA/BS Engineering or related technical discipline
• Engineering leadership within an EMS/PCB/PCBA contract manufacturing is required
• High-mix SMT production, complex PCB/PCBA assembly
• SMT equipment, programming, component/package libraries and manufacturing processes
• Strong understanding of CAD, Gerber, pick-and-place/centroid data, BOMs and manufacturing documentation
• Experience with automated inspection technologies including SPI, AOI and X-Ray
• Experience supporting NPI, manufacturing releases, engineering changes and production troubleshooting
• Comfortable spending significant time on the manufacturing floor working directly with technical and operations teams

Preferred:

• Aegis MES and ERP/MRP experience

Compensation and Benefits:

• $160K-$180K base salary plus bonus (relo assistance available)

Direct EMS/PCB/PCBA contract manufacturing experience is required.
