Wheel the World is seeking an Engineering Director in San Francisco, California. In this role, you'll lead the transition from R&D to production, overseeing multiple engineering disciplines including software and hardware integration.
The ideal candidate will have significant leadership experience, a strong track record in hardware/software production, and the ability to scale teams efficiently. Benefits include a competitive salary, equity, medical coverage, and flexible PTO.
Aurelius Systems is a VC backed defense tech startup building autonomous, edge deployed directed energy systems for counter-UAS. We build laser weapons to shoot down drones.
We're a small team of engineers, former US military operators, and subject matter experts scaling America's directed energy dominance. The first cost effective, reliable and robust laser weapon system.
Our namesake isn't an accident. Marcus Aurelius wrote about doing the work in front of you, every day, without excuses. Henry Ford didn't wait for permission to reinvent manufacturing. That's how we operate, small team, unreasonable output, no hiding behind the unachievable.
In addition to our San Francisco lab, we've opened a Detroit manufacturing hub and we field test weekly on our own 400-acre private range.
We need an Engineering Director to own the path from R&D to production across the whole system. You'll lead multiple engineering disciplines from software, firmware, controls, hardware integration, test, and drive the hard handoff from a thing that works in the lab to a thing that survives downrange and gets built at volume. This is the person who turns a demonstrator into a weapon system. You'll set technical direction, and run the org that executes it.
Advanced degree in a relevant engineering or physical science field is a plus, but track record beats credentials. No specific degree required.
Core hours are Monday through Friday, 9 to 6. When we're sprinting toward a demo or field test, the team ramps up — nights, weekends, whatever it takes to ship. When the sprint lands, we ramp down. We don't manufacture intensity for show.
