The role requires 15+ years in engineering with 7+ years in leadership, nuclear design experience, and strong capability development and collaboration across functions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil/Structural, Nuclear or related engineering.
  • PE license preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive engineering experience including nuclear design or related programs.
  • 7+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams: Electrical, I&C, Mechanical, and Structural.
  • Experience across conceptual to detailed design phases.
  • Strong resource planning, recruitment, and capability development.
  • Knowledge of nuclear design processes, QA, and design control.
  • Ability to travel overnight as required.

Overview

ENERCON is seeking a Nuclear New Design Engineering Director to lead our New Design Engineering organization supporting our New Nuclear and Federal Nuclear business units. This high-impact leadership role will provide strategic direction and organizational leadership for our Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls (I&C), Mechanical, and Structural Engineering teams.

The Nuclear New Design Engineering Director will be responsible for building and developing a high-performing, multidiscipline engineering organization capable of supporting complex nuclear projects from early-stage design through detailed engineering and implementation. This leader will ensure our teams have the people, capabilities, processes, and leadership necessary to meet the evolving needs of our New Nuclear and Federal Nuclear clients.

Responsibilities
  • Organizational Leadership & Strategy: Provide strategic leadership for the New Design Engineering organization, including Electrical, I&C, Mechanical, and Structural Engineering teams. Establish the organization's vision, priorities, and long-range capability plans to meet the current and future needs of our New Nuclear and Federal Nuclear business units.
  • Engineering Execution & Performance: Establish expectations for engineering execution, accountability, and organizational performance. Partner with project and technical leadership to ensure projects are appropriately staffed and engineering work is delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with applicable quality and technical requirements.
  • Resource & Capacity Planning: Develop and maintain a forward-looking resource strategy across all New Design Engineering disciplines. Balance workload, staffing, hiring, and development needs across New Nuclear and Federal Nuclear programs to ensure the organization has the capacity and capabilities necessary to support business commitments and future growth.
  • Team Leadership & Talent Development: Lead and mentor New Design Engineering Senior Managers and their respective engineering organizations. Establish a strong leadership pipeline through effective onboarding, training, career development, succession planning, mentoring, and leadership development.
  • Recruiting & Organizational Growth: Develop and execute workforce strategies necessary to build and maintain a strong multidiscipline nuclear engineering organization. Anticipate emerging capability needs across New Nuclear and Federal Nuclear markets and address those needs through recruiting, training, development, strategic hiring, and knowledge transfer.
  • Engineering Excellence & Continuous Improvement: Promote consistent engineering practices, strong design fundamentals, lessons learned, and continuous improvement across the organization. Partner with Chief Engineering and other technical leaders to strengthen engineering processes, improve efficiency, and maintain a culture of technical excellence.
  • Business Unit & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with New Nuclear and Federal Nuclear business leadership, Project Management, Chief Engineering, Operations, and other Engineering Directors to align engineering resources and organizational capabilities with project priorities and long-range business needs.
  • Project Development & Client Support: Support proposal development, project estimating, execution planning, client engagements, and strategic pursuits requiring New Design Engineering capabilities. Ensure engineering input is incorporated early in project development to establish achievable staffing, schedules, budgets, and execution strategies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil/Structural, Nuclear, or related Engineering discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
  • 15+ years of progressive engineering experience, preferably including experience supporting nuclear facility design, new nuclear deployment, federal nuclear facilities, major nuclear capital projects, or other complex nuclear engineering programs
  • 7+ years of progressive leadership experience managing engineering teams, departments, or multidisciplinary engineering organizations
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering organizations within one or more of the following disciplines: Electrical, I&C, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering, with the ability to provide organizational leadership across all four disciplines
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering projects through multiple phases of design, including conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design
  • Demonstrated experience with resource planning, workforce development, recruiting, succession planning, and organizational capability development
  • Strong understanding of nuclear engineering design processes, design control, quality requirements, and disciplined engineering practices
  • Ability to lead engineering organizations supporting multiple customers, business units, programs, and projects with differing technical and quality requirements
  • Proven ability to lead geographically dispersed organizations and collaborate effectively across Engineering, Project Management, Operations, and Business leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities, manage competing demands, and drive accountability for organizational and project performance
  • Strong leadership, communication, relationship management, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel overnight as required to support employees, projects, offices, and clients
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience serving as an Engineering Director, Senior Engineering Manager, Design Engineering Manager, or comparable engineering leadership role within the nuclear industry
  • Experience supporting New Nuclear, advanced reactor, SMR, Department of Energy, National Laboratory, or other Federal Nuclear programs
  • Experience managing large, multidiscipline engineering organizations supporting multiple concurrent nuclear programs and projects
  • Experience supporting complex nuclear design activities involving Electrical, I&C, Mechanical, and Structural Engineering
  • Experience supporting engineering proposals, project estimates, resource-loaded schedules, organizational planning, and execution strategies for large or complex nuclear projects
  • Demonstrated success building engineering organizations, developing engineering managers, and establishing leadership succession
  • Experience working within multiple nuclear quality assurance and design control environments is preferred
Compensation Range

USD $178,000.00 - USD $260,000.00 /Yr.
