Job summary

Samsung HME America is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead a cross-functional team in mobile CT product development and lifecycle improvements.

You will collaborate with Service, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Applications and Product Management to deliver innovative, reliable, and cost-effective imaging solutions that align with the company’s Market, Product & Technology strategy.

Qualifications

Role Description

The Director of Engineering is responsible for leading a cross-functional team in the development of new products and the continuous improvement of existing products for the Mobile Computed Tomography business. The Director of Engineering works closely with cross-functional teams, including Service, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Applications and Product Management, to deliver innovative, reliable, and cost-effective solutions to fulfill the company’s Market, Product & Technology strategy.

Key Duties And Responsibilities, Other Duties May Be Assigned

Technical Leadership & Engineering Excellence


  • Drive technology collaboration across business units to accelerate innovation and leverage enterprise capabilities.

  • Collaborate with researchers, customers and product management to drive continuous improvement of our products and generate generational product plans to address unmet customer needs.

  • Facilitate the technology and product roadmap necessary to achieve medium-to-long-term market strategy.

  • Serve as process owner for New Product Introduction (NPI) and product improvement process.

  • Establish, monitor and continuously improve Engineering metrics and operational performance to drive efficiency, scalability, and productivity.

  • Own and advocate for the division’s intellectual property strategy; actively support invention disclosure, patent development, and IP portfolio growth.

  • Promote agile methodologies, engineering best practices, and operational excellence.

  • Enable technical leaders to make sound architectural and technical decisions.

  • Monitor organizational health metrics such as retention, engagement, delivery, and quality.

  • Remove organizational obstacles that impact engineering effectiveness.


Planning & Resource Utilization


  • Partner with engineering and product leaders to prioritize initiatives and allocate resources effectively across teams.

  • Optimize team capacity, workload balancing, and staffing to maximize productivity and delivery outcomes.

  • Evaluate current and future resource needs, including hiring, contractor utilization, and budget planning.

  • Monitor resource utilization, team velocity, and organizational capacity to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.

  • Drive quarterly and annual planning processes, ensuring alignment between strategic objectives and engineering execution.

  • Collaborate with Finance, HR, and executive leadership on headcount planning, forecasting, and budget management.


Financial Leadership


  • Develop and manage the engineering organization's annual operating and capital budgets.

  • Partner with Finance and executive leadership to create accurate budget forecasts, headcount plans, and long-range financial plans.

  • Monitor budget performance, analyze variances, and implement corrective actions to ensure fiscal responsibility.

  • Optimize engineering investments by balancing business priorities, staffing needs, technology investments, and operational costs.

  • Evaluate the financial impact and return on investment (ROI) of engineering initiatives, tools, platforms, and strategic programs.

  • Lead vendor selection, contract negotiations, and management of technology and service provider expenditures.

  • Ensure efficient allocation of financial resources to maximize organizational value and delivery outcomes.

  • Identify opportunities for cost optimization while maintaining product quality, reliability, and employee experience.

  • Establish financial metrics and reporting to track budget performance, resource utilization, and investment effectiveness.


People Leadership


  • Establish leadership practices that improve team productivity and delivery predictability.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop engineering managers and senior engineers.

  • Build a culture of trust, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance reviews, and career development conversations.

  • Coach managers on leadership, conflict resolution, feedback, and employee engagement.

Education & Experience


  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Biomedical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Other STEM degrees considered with adequate industrial experience.

  • 10+ years of experience in design, manufacturing and service of Computed Tomography or analogous experience in another medical imaging modality required.

  • 5+ years of experience of leading cross-functional teams in their daily execution, ensuring necessary skills and resources are effectively applied and delivering to plan.

  • Demonstrated success building and scaling engineering teams.

  • Strong experience with performance management, coaching, and career development.

  • Experience leading organizational change in fast-paced environments.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and executive stakeholder management skills.


Computer & Analytic Skills


  • You must be excellent with technology, be able to present using a laptop computer and be able demonstrate proficiency with MS Office package, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; as well as Outlook, Internet Explorer, and Google Chrome

Physical Requirements


  • Regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds

  • Frequently required to sit at desk for long periods of time; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear

  • Interaction with x-ray devices; for this reason strict safety and tracking programs are in place, requiring the utilization of dose monitoring equipment either full time or as necessitated by situation

  • The noise level in the work environment is occasionally very loud.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus
